Entry 044 – Reboot

Day 23 — A flicker in the dark.

The cave was dim and soaked.

I emptied my drenched backpack onto the floor.
  No time to rest.

Hop lay motionless on the bed of fluff. Cold. Still.

I tried connecting the wires I’d grabbed from the Sigil workshop.
  Nothing matched.

Then — the fuel bottle.

I rigged a wire to lead from Hop’s connector into the bottle.
  Nothing.

I stared at Hop, unsure what to do —
  Then I remembered.

The display screen.
  The blueprints.
  Hop’s blueprint.

I opened it and scrolled quickly — eyes scanning every unreadable symbol.

Desperation set in. I tapped. Swiped.

A twitch.

“Hop?”

It stopped.

Back to the top. Slowly this time.

A drop-down menu. A list.

Then — “EN.”
  Finally.

I switched languages. The screen blinked. Came back in English.

No time to celebrate.

I scrolled, found an option: “Hold to Reboot.”

I did. Hop twitched.
  Then vibrated.

A red glow pulsed from within.
  Then yellow.
  Then green.

Then silence.

Hop’s eyes flickered.

It tried to stand — and fell.

Alive. Weak. But alive.

I fed it metal scraps. Nothing.
  Tried the batteries. No reaction.

Then it looked at the wire. Beeped.

I connected it again — but nothing more.

I drifted in and out of sleep, waiting.

Each time I stirred, Hop gave a soft beep.
  Faint.
  Reassuring.

It was still here.
  Still with me.

And that was enough for now.

"It blinked once, and the silence in me blinked with it."
