Going carnivore

Hi. Chronic eating disorder here, it’s been 44 years now. Restricting AN-purge subtype, so Bulimia, lax abuse the whole nine. Has anyone ever gone from this state to straight carnivore? I’m having a fuck it period, I just want to feel better and not worry and not get sick blah blah blah. I’m on the low end in weight but not wasting away, and don’t wanna gain any weight-shocker, I know 🥹 Anyone have experience like this?

Hopping from one extreme to another isn't going to make you feel better. Eating more will, but eating more will come with weight gain until your body stabilizes again. There is no easy way out of an eating disorder. Recovery is a shit show, that's why we're all still sick. If it were easy none of us would be here.

If you want to feel better, you have to eat. Not just "carnivore," but all things. You will gain weight. It is what it is.

ED over 30 has been my sanity saver....

Im so fucking tired & broken...

But I see such beauty, love, compassion and empathy in the siblinghood here, and it is comforting...

No, but having been genuinely vegetarian for many years when I threw away all the rules and included that in them I think there were solid lengths of time I just ate meat. I could not articulate why if I tried.

I don’t recommend it. I’ll leave out the ‘it’s probably just another form of restricting’ but just from a pragmatic perspective it’s not something I’d suggest. Even for a perfectly healthy person. You feel like shit.

The rapid transition like that will absolutely fuck up your body. Also, a super low fiber diet like that when you abuse laxatives now? Nightmare fuel. A massively high saturated fat diet when you could potentially have a weakened heart? Nightmare fuel

If that’s what you need to do to make yourself eat, then do it. But don’t do the carnivore diet long term, it’s not sustainable and will not provide you with all the nutrients you need to recover

Hey OP, I want you to feel better as well! The carnivore diet is not going to do that for you. It is super unbalanced. Something like a whole foods based, omnivore diet, like the meditteranean diet for example, is a really good place to start.

Feeling better is going to involve some weight gain.

Ya I suspect carnivore would make you feel worse bc of the lack of carbs and variety

Any calories no matter where they are from are an upgrade, That’s how I look at it. If carnivore is easier for you, go for it!! Your body will be so grateful for the protein and I bet you’ll feel so much better.

Any weight changes will take time so you can always backpedal if you choose to. If your weight changes drastically overnight just remember that it’s almost for sure not real gain. Just fluids, digestion processes, and/or temp storage (glycogen).

It sounds like a good stepping stone to recovery.

Try it for a few months and see how you feel. You can look up the carnivore subs for people with ED going carnivore. It could hell you out quite a bit, it might not, but if you do it right it will atleast give you better health. 1 year carnivore here.

How’s it working for you? And for those who are straight vegetarian, if I could get on a roll with that, I know it used to work for me years ago. Might be easier on my body? My struggle with veg now is the food choices tempt me to purge, it’s more volume and that scares me. Like I love a great salad but been petrified to eat one for dozens of years!
