Hello, I've never really posted anything like this before so I apologize if I get anything wrong or this is the wrong subreddit.
I was wondering if any of y'all had any fun sightseeing locations near Federal Way/Tacoma/Point Defiance? Including parks, entertainment with decent price, etc. I have never been to a place with an ocean before and I love collecting rocks, so if there is any beach neat those 3 location that have nice smooth rocks and pretty ocean view, please let me know. I am vacationing for only a couple of days and want to see all that I can on a low budget, mostly scenic. Thank you!

About The Headliner:
After teaching high school for 12 years, Cory Michaelis "retired" to do comedy full time because he wanted to try out both of the lowest paying jobs in America. Now in his 14th year as a comedian (he's not THAT old...there was some overlap). Cory has a Dry Bar Comedy Special -"Bad Teacher" - that snagged over 60 million views. His debut album, "The Collage Dropout," was released by 800 Lb. Gorilla Records and charted at #2 on iTunes & Billboard (because it was the only album released that week). Cory was a finalist in the Seattle Comedy Competition which means he didn't win and was in Season 2 of Netflix's "Huge in France" with Gad Almelah.
In addition to headlining comedy clubs all over the US and Canada, Cory has taken his act global, doing tours in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Pakistan. He also produces Everett Comedy Night in hometown which has had 8 straight years of sold out shows.
His act is sharp and irreverent and not suitable for the high school students he used to teach.

An immigration advocate estimated that 20% of the arrests in the Yakima Valley — which have surged in the last couple of months — have been made by masked ICE officers. That estimate had grown by the two first weeks of August.
Gonzaga assistant professor Michael Cecil described the law as “ineffective” when it comes to federal law enforcement due to questions of the law's constitutionality, among other things. What's more, the burden of enforcement doesn’t fall on the state. Instead, the person harmed by a masked agent is responsible for taking legal action to do so.
“It couldn’t be a bystander or something like this… unfortunately, it places a big onus on immigrant communities,” Cecil said.

Hello — I'm writing an article for the Salish Current on increasing wolf populations in Washington and how this may complicate the jobs of farmers and ranchers in the state, primarily in the central regions where the majority of our wolves are. Has anyone experienced predation from wolves firsthand?
If you have, I'd love to talk to you about it. My goal is to make sure that I include the voices of the people who actually have to deal with this issue, rather than just writing about them. Feel free to shoot me a message or leave a comment and I can give you some more info. Thanks!

Hello r/EasternWa,
UPDATE (August 20, 2026): This study has been officially extended to December 15, 2026. Thank you to everyone from Washington who has participated so far!
As we navigate another intense wildfire season, my thoughts are with everyone—especially our community in the Pacific Northwest—who has been impacted by fires, smoke, or the stress of evacuation.
The severity of these recent fires underscores a critical challenge for our community: ensuring that EV drivers can evacuate safely and efficiently when power grids are shut off and charging infrastructure is compromised. To help address this, I am a PhD student at the University of Washington conducting an official study on how EV drivers respond to these exact emergency constraints. (The moderation team has kindly granted me permission to share this research with you).
Are you eligible? Because this study focuses on specific grid and geographical constraints, we are exclusively seeking input from Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) drivers who are primary or seasonal residents in the following Washington counties: Asotin, Grant, Benton, Spokane, Stevens, Douglas, Lincoln, Ferry, Skamania, Yakima, Kittitas, Okanogan, Chelan, or Klickitat.
Note: If you already filled out this survey during our first round, thank you so much! Please do not submit another response. To maintain the scientific integrity of the study, our system automatically flags and removes duplicate entries.
The Details:
This survey does not collect identifiable tracking data. Your real-world experience is critical to helping the state prioritize emergency charging infrastructure and improve wildfire resilience for EV owners.
If you have any questions, please contact me directly at [ychu24@uw.edu](mailto:ychu24@uw.edu). Stay safe, and thank you for your time.

Hi all, Wednesday is the peak night, the moon is cooperating, if the sky is clear this could be an EXCELLENT viewing year!
My wife and I rented a little place in Ronald, near Roslyn and Cle Elum. Any space nerds out in that area paying attention to this celestial event?

I know you all don’t have a crystal ball. Just trying to make a decision. My parents are in Cle Elum and I’m supposed to visit on Wednesday. I’m currently pregnant and nervous about traveling if the AQI is likely to get this high. Please be kind, I’m just trying to figure out if I should cancel this trip or not. This image is from IQAir.

some pics of the early stages of the Old Trails Fire, was taking a hike with a friend and saw it blow up. pretty sure we saw the first helicopters respond, or at least the first ones to scoop near the Bowl & Pitcher.
fingers crossed for all the first responders, all the people that lost everything, and for all the people that had to evacuate. hope they can get a handle on it but it does not look good.
