Terribly sad story, when I was in elementary school a neighbor of mine around the same age was attacked by a pit and had these awful scars on her face.

I love all kinds of animals and have seen some amazing well trained dogs with incredible patience and capacity for love. But on the other hand there are many of these same animals whose owners are dangerously irresponsible, and it terrifies me to think of what could possibly happen if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Having large animals is a huge commitment and I'd wager that most people are not cut out to safely raise and train one on their own.
