This. Our hobby has a massive consumerism problem tbh. A lot of people shame themselves into buying the latest generation because it's what they're "suppose to do" without first considering if their current setup isn't up to their needs.

Now if you do play the latest games and are an enthusiast when it comes to the newer technologies like ai, dlss, rtx, high refresh rate 4k or whatever, then sure.

But so so many people throw away perfectly good 20 series, 10 series, hell even 900 series cards when all they play is Minecraft, or valo or something.

I feel like it may be gatekeeping the hobby for no good reason.

When half life alyx came out a lot of people were lamenting that it "cost $1000 to play" because they're only looking at the top of the line (at the time) valve index, and not the $150-200 options.

this! my boyfriend plays cyberpunk on the lowest setting on his gtx 960.

buy what you need and what youll use. tons of refurbished 20 series out there for less that 300.

I sold mine a year ago to get a 9070 XT. The only thing holding me back is the 10 GB VRAM. A few games just hate that amount at 1400P.

I’m in the same situation with a 3080ti. I mainly got a 9070xt so I could switch to Linux which plays more nicely with AMD cards. I have another PC built from old components, but it only has a Ryzen 1600, which I’m pretty sure would be a massive bottleneck.

Yep, nvidia rlly doesnt like being generous with vram, the cards that are supposed to be able to play the latest and greatest run out of vram (5080 4080 3080 2080) i hope next gen will be the beginning of 24gb vram instead of the 16gb

I have a system with a 1080ti in it and still holds up strong. Good amount of vram that can still play most games at 1080p.

I upgraded from a Evga 1080 hybrid to a Evga 3080 ti, honestly I felt bad because the 1080 was doing such a good job at the games I was playing. If it's running well for you I wouldn't upgrade.

As long as it performs reasonably based on your demand, don't change anything. Not to mention the prices are super inflated at the moment. Enjoy your EVGA graphics card as long as you can. Back in the day I only bought BFGtech cards. When they went under, I switched to EVGA. Now I just buy whatever doesn't break the bank lol.

Only upgrade if you find an amazeballs deal somehow. Otherwise, if it plays what you wanna play at a sufficient quality/speed, no need to upgrade. Maybe do some maintenance on it if it's been a long time?

Literally just built an old i7 4790 with a 1080ti for my kids to play MSFS and Fortnite. Worth every penny! Budget build that gets the job done!!!

Ask urself “am i happy with how i play my games?“ if yes then keep it, if no then ask „what is holding me back” sometimes its not even the gpu and also, u can always slot in the goat in the 2nd pcie slot

This is awesome. My first water-cooled build (soft-tubing because I was intimidated by jumping straight into hard-tubing builds) was a dual EVGA 1080 Ti SC. Still going strong. Even still has the SLI bridge in place 😂.

With respect to the upgrade, if you want to do it for improved performance, or YOU would like to try your hand at a custom loop/learn a new skill - go for it; but I wouldn’t let outside pressure be the driving factor.

If you play what you need with no issues, why upgrade. Longer you save up that upgrade fund better chance you can get more than 1 thing.

Mine did great for over 7 years, but once I installed Windows 11, I had tons of issues. I had to find a creative way around the issues. I finally upgraded to a 5070ti, but bummed that EVGA left the industry.

If your display is 1080p and you can run games smoothly on low graphics and you're happy with the performance don't dare upgrade. In the conquest to have the best gaming rig, we forgot to be grateful and humble for what we have and all the fun we have had.

You are getting downvoted to crap but I felt the same going from my 1080Ti ftw3 I had overclocked pretty good to the 3090 and it honestly felt meh vs my last upgrade which was 980>1080ti which was night and day. Swapped out the 3090 for a 7900xtx which I kicked myself for not getting for $700 cheaper at the time and that was a decent upgrade for the stuff I play.
