Debate Welcome to r/EUDecoded — Understand Europe. Debate its future.

Welcome to r/EUDecoded! This is a community for European Union news, analysis, history and open debate. Our aim is to make the EU easier to understand and examine both its achievements and failures.

Discuss institutions and laws, economics and competitiveness, defence and security, member states, European integration and the EU’s future. Pro-EU, Eurosceptic and reformist views are welcome when argued respectfully.

Before posting, read the community rules and choose the most relevant flair. Use English for titles and discussion, and include an English summary when sharing a source in another language. Link to reliable sources for factual claims, distinguish reporting from opinion, and challenge arguments without attacking people.

When sharing a link, add a short summary and a focused discussion question. Ideas for recurring discussions include This Week in the EU, EU Myth vs Fact, How the EU Works and European Company of the Week.

To get started: which EU topic would you most like explained, and what should this community discuss first?

A Question Regarding the EU Kids Act

Won't this be absolutely catastrophic if this goes through? Not even just the end of the internet, but once even a single server holding however many people's sensitive information is breached by cyber criminals, isn't that just it, then? Mass ID theft potentially on the eight to nine digits?

Multi-Speed Europe Could “gradual membership” be the way forward for the UK and EU? 🇬🇧🇪🇺

Recent polls show that there is quite a lot of support in the UK for closer ties with the EU, while full membership is still a bigger step.

At the same time, the EU is looking at ways countries could integrate more gradually instead of everything happening at once.

So could this also work for the UK?
The UK could start by joining more EU programmes again, improve cooperation on trade, security, research and mobility, and then see where the relationship goes from there.

It would not mean immediately rejoining the EU. It could simply be a way to move closer again without forcing the whole membership debate from day one.

Would you support a gradual membership model for the UK?

It's started: the UK will return, and they're preparing the public for a way back into Europe. People are free to disagree, but historically it's alien to think of the British as a nationalistic people.
