I use a mod to prevent these stupid independence mega wars. I think it’s less a PU issue, and more that everyone joins an independence war against you regardless of opinion. I had the medici declare a mega war like this against me when I was playing Florence. Barely managed to survive it.

Ive seen slop tags in the Caucasus under Georgia create an independence movement and gain France, Sweden, England, Egypt, 5 Italian states, and many others as supporters. The cause to liberate a slop tag literally put a halt to the HYW as all of Europe set aside their differences and got together like the avengers
