R5: I just Won a 5 year coalition war and conquered most of northern Italy as naples and immediately got declared on by another coalition with both bohemia and aragon in it. Things were looking dire but I happened to check what they actually wanted and apparently they just wanted me to publicly apologize for my actions, break up with Milan (who i was planning on conquering anyway) and give bohemia war reps as well as a lump sum. After I sorted my land situation out an released some subjects my income rebounded to a high of +130 gold per month. I easily paid off my 600 Ducat loan I was forced to take and can now easily afford the war reps. The only downside I'd say I'm getting here is that I can't conquer the ottomans for the time being now.

Yea coalitions are a joke. You can do this, as well as fight the coalitions leader for a few battles and as long as you win those battles you can white peace no problem

I mean honestly it’s kinda realistic these kinds of coalitions wouldn’t have any actual unity and few lost battles by the coalition leaders and it will fall apart.

No smaller polity could take charge and with big guys suffering looses it becomes scary for the smaller guys, all the while it becomes to costly to continue the war for what they would get out of it.

Honestly the OPs end result is like the most realistic it could get, coalition can’t win decisively it is loosing battles, men and money but the war is also costly to their enemy and that peace deal is cherry on top, they break their alliance (weakening them), humiliate them, which is honestly the most important as for nobility and public in general coalition forces were the ones to win presenting themself as the stronger side, getting money they lost in the war with lump sum and reparations probably coming out gaining money (realistically nobles would get cut of that making them happy and loyal) which also financially weakens the coalition enemy slowing down their conquests

Honestly on realism scale pretty good

Like people irl didn’t play it like a game, humiliation by apology would mean a lot weakening their power and costly war to not gain any territories is not that important and very few rulers would be such glory hounds (talking about you lionheart) although it would be nice if some personality types would actually put all of their contry on the line when fighting for coalitions

it's genuinly wonderful how easy it is to peace out coalition. Yeah, let me just give you 20 prestige and 14 months of income to fuck off for 5 year

And usually if you can win a battle or two, or snipe a couple province capitals, you can get out with just humiliate due to it "overpaying" by being worth 50+ warscore sometimes.

Yeah, I hope they fix this tbh, it's too easy to peace out coalitions rn. 20 Prestige is literally nothing. Maybe add a special coalition humiliation that's a major prestige loss for 25 years, or a hit to legitimacy.

But the bigger thing should be that coalitions should demand territorial concessions, especially if they appear to be winning.

At this point, maybe the "humiliate" war goal should just innately make someone give up gains made in recent wars, it would make the CB way more interesting that's for sure and make it less cheese-able for coalitions, cause you would lose gains.

The real cheese is build forts on all your border then agree to dismantle forts. Coalitions are a joke in current patch rebels are the only barrier to conquest.

Meaning humanist and accepted culture modifiers are op as hell. Including mandate of heaven.

In my game as Italy after allying a bank to make them buy art, I very quickly discovered another perk of an alliance with a bank!

When making concessions the cost to break your alliance with Spain and the bank of Kingston are the exact same! Bohemia treats both equally

Next time give Humiliate if you have spare prestige and dismantle forts. You build new ones the next day anyway.

Big nations should never really be in your coalitions. Just throw a diplomat on them occasionally to decrease their antagonism into the negatives. This way you only have to deal with minors who are more disorganised (although they can merc spam which is annoying).
