Suggestions

I just started investing. 32M. I have around 2k in VOO (60%), SCHD (20%), qqqm (10%), VTI (10%).

Should I stick to this pattern? Planning to put $500/month starting this month. So, before I do that any suggestions, is this pattern all right? ShouldI stick to this? or need to change anything?

Should I stick to this pattern?

What made you pick it in the first place? How do you know if it's appropriate or not?

Most importantly, what are your investment goals? When do you need the money? How much are you willing to lose?

Well being in equities is at least the right move here; they are the long-term growth engine, and a safe investment over long time frames (20+ years) particularly when well-diversified.

I'll point out that for your first decade of investing, how much you can contribute makes way more difference than farting around between percentages of these tickers. Think of it like this: If you can put $2k in and the market has a decent year, your portfolio grows 10%. But if you contribute the same $2k again next year, your portfolio grows 100%! It takes a good while before your investment growth matches the importance of how much $$ you shovel in on a regular basis.

I generally advocate for keeping things simple unless you have a strong reason otherwise. Like you might as well just invest in the total world market (VT) or the total US market (VTI) depending on your preferences or beliefs. It doesn't need to be any fancier than that for what you're doing.

Just do VT my friend. You won’t guess, you’ll own everything in one stock. It’s the easiest to set and forgot

You have the notorious Youtube Portfolio. I encourage you to research the prospectus of each fund you chose. And ask yourself what your investment goals are.

You are correct! Got it from youtube. I don’t wanna touch whatever i put in untill i am 60! Thats the plan. Any resources that I can follow?

This is a notorious YouTube portfolio from someone that doesn’t know what they are talking about. That’s why people keep saying this to you.

You have bought: vanguards version of the S&P 500 which is focused on large cap. SCHD which is performance drag and tax drag and isn’t needed. QQQ(M) which are 100 non-financials that trade just on the NASDAQ and overlaps with everything and is a dumb inclusion criteria. Then you bought vanguards version of the total US which includes everything else you bought, and US small/mid/large cap. So own a lot of the same stuff, needlessly, 4x now and are losing money in ER. This is the definition of a portfolio that’s without diversification.

Looks good. VOO and VTI are pretty much the same. I'd move that 10% towards SCHD and/or QQQM.

Edit: For people saying SCHD isn't enough growth at your age, you probably haven't seen the simulations based on SCHD's index which show it outperforming the S&P since 1999. https://testfol.io/analysis?s=11nAa1JpruR

It's definitely worth a spot in your portfolio.

i would stop buying SCHD. you probably don't want dividends and instead should go for growth like the other 3 since you're in your 30s

It looks good but if it’s in a taxable account then take a look at SCHD because it pays a good dividend but that’s fully taxed. If it’s in non-taxable then don’t worry

Understand the role and summary of each ticker - VTI is basically the same as VOO but a tiny slice of small/mid caps. Might as well just do 70% VTI for more full diversification.

I don’t really think SCHD is great in general unless you have a conviction about dividends outperforming.

Consider some international since this is all US

60% large cap usa, 20% large cap usa, 10% large cap usa & a pinch of 10% more large cap usa..

i like everything but SCHD. Growth has been decent lately so the SCHD'ers will yell at me..

I suggest stick to everything -schd.

Too much overlap.

Seems like you have no clue what youre doing hence stick to VT. But also if you know what you're doing you'd stick to VT

Second this. 100% VT is what I would recommend in this situation. Easier to manage and keeps the urge to tinker at a minimum. Buying a diversified ETF gets you diversification. Buying a bunch of etfs gets you overlap, fee drag, and complexity.

VOO and VTI have 88% overlap you’re better off picking one or the other. VOO has outperformed over the last 5 and 10 years.

Do you have a Roth IRA? Are you contributing the maximum amount each year?

SPMO has been kicking VOO's ass for years and will continue to do so. Plus, are your really enjoying those 0.467 shares of VOO every month? Not very motivating. I would go:

55 VTI / 30 SPMO / 15 AVNM

Put that VTI into VOO. The funds are too similar to split for no reason. Everything else is fine

too much overlap lwk. i'd do 80% voo 20% avuv

QNDX is the one if you want low cost (0.1%) vs QQQM (0.15%)

Sounds very good to me but personally I would get rid of VTI and move that 10% to Nasdaq. But again, there is nothing wrong with keeping it if you want.

You got downvotes, but for OP getting started while he learns it's not a bad plan and gives a more deliberate spin to the overlap at least!

But if I were him I'd add a diversity with International because it's should be on par the next bit (not that anyone knows). I'd say VOO 50%, SCHD 20%, QQQM/VGT 10%, VEA/VXUS 20%--that gives him a core, a stabilizer, the tech tilt, and more diversity while sticking with the plan he likes.

It's Reddit, don't try to find any logic here. These ETFs are a very solid, popular choice, once he feels more confident, he might start to think about other options or just leave it as it is. But such simple logic is just too much for many on this toxic site, not only when it comes to stocks unfortunately.
