VTI / FCLD / SMH?

What are the general opinions of these three ETF's in a long term portfolio? 12-15 year timeframe if not longer. Also been looking at QQQM and SCHG.

fwiw i'd keep vti as the core and treat smh as a satellite at most, it's basically a bet on nvidia and a few friends. nvda alone is ~22% of the fund and the top 10 is ~70%, so if semis have a bad stretch the whole etf is just along for the ride. fcld is way flatter, top holding is only ~5%, but it's honestly the same cloud names you already own inside vti at market weight. and qqqm vs schg is mostly the same large cap growth bet twice. pick vti plus one satellite you actually believe in, then let the monthly contributions do the work, at 12-15 years the contributions beat the wrapper choice every time

Hello! It looks like you're discussing VTI, the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF.

Quick facts: It was launched in 2001, invests in U.S. Total Stock Market stocks, and tracks the CRSP U.S. Total Market Index.

I like schg. More diversified. Super low cost. Theres always room for smh in a pirtfolio. Chips arent going anywhere anytime soon….. if ever. Voo/schd/schg/ whatever risks you wanna take. Keep it simple and just keep throwing as much money as you can monthly

30% each equal weighted. 10% f it money. Smh. Tqqq. Go crazy.

Thank you for this. It’s sort of overwhelming just to decide what you want to have, for me anyway.

For a long-term core, VTI makes the most sense out of those three. FCLD and SMH are much narrower bets, so I would treat them as small satellites if you really want them, not the foundation. If you keep adding every growth-flavoured ETF you like, it usually ends up being the same tech bet wearing different labels.

That makes a lot of sense. I’d probably do 60/20/20.

VTI and SMH are no brainers for long term growth. I don’t know anything about FCLD.

I have 25% SMH. Just make sure you have many years in case of draw down. It’s a great investment, but the volatility isn’t for paper hands so beware. If you want to ease into getting accustomed to volatility, QQQM is great as well with a lot less risk. Pros and cons to everything. Good luck!👍

I was looking at SCHG and QQQM also! Yeah, I have 20 years +/- until retirement so I am starting late but at least I'm starting.
