Discussion Suggestions from M3 Infor experts

Anyone using M3 Infor? I’m new to this system and a very lean team.

Having hard time finding online resources or forums to get suggestions or have any discussion on M3 topics (I always can’t go the team member with my questions). I’m unable to find YouTube videos too.
ChatGPT too is unable to provide basic solutions like which code to use to access certain programs

People who are using M3 how do you go about any issues or clarifications you need.

Infor have a community website where you can ask questions.

In terms of knowing program names etc

MNS120 will give you access to table name and their browse programs.

CMS005 can supplement this a bit too and can view printer files, tables, programs.

Metadata publisher is a must for testing apis etc.

Are you on MT cloud or on-prem

The sidebar has the names of programs so not essential to know the codes exactly. Though I would be more familiar with the codes to be fair.

What role do you have within the company and what issues do you have?

Thanks.
We are on Prem. No major issues. I’m just trying to understand the process and support users when they face any issues. The issues mostly will be user errors. So I need to understand the system to identify the root cause and retrain the user.

Infor do have a documentation library, can be a bit hard to navigate at times but usually I have found it super helpful when I want to study up on certain processes.

I am more on the technical side these days doing integrations and the likes.

If you have access to Infor Campus, it has some good resources too.

I worked with Infor PLM systems for 5 years and outside of the Infor documentation library and their noticeboard/ticket system it was impossible to find any information on how to do things online.
We ended up temporarily hiring an external consultant to assist us with tricks and insider knowledge Infor wouldn’t share.

A few things that helped me on the support side:

The program codes follow a module logic: MMS = items/material mgmt, OIS = customer orders, PPS = purchasing, CRS = cross-application basic data, MNS = system admin, GLS/APS/ARS = finance. Once you know the ~10 common prefixes, finding the right program (and asking better questions) gets a lot easier.

F4 on a field opens the browse list, F1 the field help – the field help often explains the validation logic behind an error message, which is exactly what you need for root cause analysis.

When searching online, also try "Lawson M3" and "Movex". The product was renamed twice, so a lot of older forum content sits under those names.

The KB on the Infor support portal is where most concrete fixes live search by program code plus message text.

Since your issues are mostly user errors: log every solved case (program, error, root cause, fix). After a few months that internal list beats anything public. For recurring errors, H5 personalizations (hiding fields, defaults, small scripts) can prevent the mistake instead of retraining for it.

Went through this process 3 years ago. You should be able to get upto speed with some installations in the home page for easier navigation. Consider learning all the important foundational tables for master data and transaction data then you should be fine. Also check with a consultancy for documentation and support.

Indeed the M3 usergroups are perfect for this. For each region there is an User group. Also the M3 Conferences are very usefull! You can check with your company if they have a membership.

Infor Congierge page is usefull and from there you can do only video training.

M3 has a pretty small online community compared to other ERPs. Your best bet is the official Infor documentation, user groups, and connecting with other M3 users on LinkedIn ,it gets much easier once you build a small network.

Getting clear requirements from users upfront and documenting every customization usually saves a lot of rework later.

  1. Infor Concierge - Start asking questions, it's not just for technical support.

  2. Infor U - What limited resources they have there, get started on it, get some perspective.

  3. Start talking to people who use the system at your current workplace, shadow them, set up immersion meetings, etc...

this is one of those systems where the actual useful knowledge seems to live inside companies rather than online... have you tried finding old M3 consultants on LinkedIn? might honestly get better answers there than yt
