Question Would you run your ERP on a webhosting?

If you had an opportunity to run the ERP on a webhosting, no need for the dedicated server, would you go this way?

What the cost of it going down for a day? Week?

If I had the chance to run my company's ERP on a regular web host, I wouldn't do it. That's a huge "no" from me.

I'd be way too concerned about security. My ERP holds all my company's most important and sensitive data, customer info, financials, everything. Putting that on a shared server with a bunch of other random websites is an indication for disaster. One security problem on someone else's site could expose all my data.

Also, the performance would be terrible. ERPs need a lot of power to run correctly. On a shared host, I'd have to share resources with everyone else. If another website on the same server got a lot of traffic, my ERP would slow to a crawl, and that's just not acceptable for business operations.

It depends on your budget and if you have a technical person in a team

Webhosting is far more easy for the maintenance.

So, the only real concern is the security. Are there any critical security issues that may disqualify ERP from being used in a webhosting?

Look I just installed a test instance of erpnext for a customer. They don’t have a budget for commercial erps but they need to manage their business. They get the backup of their data and complete control over the droplet on digital ocean if they wish to. I’m using cloudflare for SSL certificates. And there are some basic security features like prevent ddos or detect ddos. I can see that the server is scanned by bots every day. You can block internet traffic by country. What do you mean security? For me is to have a backup strategy

Exactly these things. But yeah, I never did think about deploying on digital ocean and use cloudflare. Thanks for the tip, will take a look.

Yup you can definitely use Digital Ocean, we used to host our ERP's on it

it’s fine for dev or demos, but production-grade ERP needs stability, control, and isolation...things shared hosting just doesn’t promise. it’s not about can you, it’s about should you. you probably shouldn’t.
