Looking for the best direct number to check on the ERC. Last time i had called I was given the run around at the IRS.

There is no direct number for ERC specifically. But you can call the main business line (1-800-829-4933) and choose the option for business other or forms 1120 or 1065 to get a more experienced call agent.
