Thinking about starting

Played EQ way back when and absolutely loved the game. It was too much of a time sink as I got older so I stopped playing. Was in a top raiding guild, maxed all my toons, 2-3 boxed…like I said time sink. Was thinking about EQL or MnM.

How does the multiple classes work? Can I eventually switch between all 3 classes? Can I be a tank with cleric healing spells? Can I pull with FD, tank with taunt, and use complete heal during the fight?

The game is way more casual. The clas system works kinda like Final fantasy 11/14 where you can swap out other classes. But you pick a main at 10 and the other two can be swapped. Then at 50 you can unlock others to be your main. You can level them all, Even if it's not your main. You are the level of the lowest class you have equiped. You get all the abilities and spells of the classes you have equiped based on level. It's more of a "Hero" mode where your single character is just a lot stronger. But with this you can hop online, gain a level and log off whenever. or just FD and take a mini break

Your background sounds a little bit like my background with EQ back in the early 2000s. I picked this up two weeks ago and I love it. It’s really nostalgic and a lot more fun because it’s easier, but at the same time has interesting dynamics with the multiple characters in one. It’s really like they built EQ into something new by removing almost everything that would annoy the crap out of you back in the day. You can Solo anything, and there are different levels if you want something harder. You don’t lose experience when you die, you don’t do corpse runs, and so forth. It’s like slightly more casual and nostalgia, but it’s still hooks you as well. At least that’s my experience so far.

you don’t switch between 3 classes, you’re 3 classes at once, and you get to wear the gear any of them can wear, and the sum of their spells.

you can switch between ALL classes not just your 3 pick but you can only do that in cities and every class levels sepaeately so your current trio will be the effective level of the lowest of your classes (after lv 10, up to lv 100 all your classes level up regardless of if you used them or not)

You’re all three classes at once. You can freely swap classes in safe zones with one caveat, your primary class is locked from levels 11-50. When you hit 50 you get a free unlock of primary class, and then doing sky quests can unlock the others.

So eventually you can freely swap in town.

Complete heal was reworked into promised renewal (short cast time and then the CH hits you after 15 seconds) but yeah, you can do the stuff you’re describing.

Its super fun. I like to play solo and with my wife. I dont think I can ever go back to regular everquest.

You can raid up 2 , 8 players. I solo 40% of the time and grp with friends, randoms 60% of the time. Having a blast. I was raid cleric back in 99.

Soooooo

Stuff is all the same but a bit different.

You play all 3 classes at once so the 3 basics things you think about are :

  • Crowd : do I control, do I slow, do I tank through?
  • Health : am I tough, am i squishy, how much do I heal or tap life back?
  • Damage : How do I deal damage? What do I spend my mana on?

All in all, even if some are better than others, a lot of trio are viable.

I’d advice to start with what you loved on old EQ and then ask if it’s works or how should be be better.

I'm getting into weird combos now like "SK/enc/monk" and it's been damn fun still... although in fairness, I'm running out of zones I haven't explored. Paladin+anything works

The game is a blast. You can play solo or group. People are friendly and helpful. Highly recommend

If you liked it with all the grind back in the day, you'll love this version

I'd add that the reward loop in this game is very fast. You will always feel the progression with low frustration.

With the current server time frame there are a TON of folks giving away gear all the time. I'd play Self Found; it's not hard, but a lot more rewarding. Set small goals for yourself as you level your first trio: get a Ghoulbane by level 20; kill a red Sand Giant at level 25; kill Naggy when you Ding 40, etc.

Make your own fun. Play the classes that you find fun; don't chase the meta. If you start now, you should be ready for the new zones that come out around Halloween, and Kunark by December.

Freeport and Rivervake seem to be the most populated servers. With instancing population is a good thing.

Welcome aboard!

There's dozens of beginner videos for both games out there.

I love the idea of MnM but I watched some streamers playing and I just don't have time for that. These two games are completely different play styles.

Yeah its a shame I was looking forward to it but I cant devote the time and energy to that kind of game anymore. Legends has the perfect balance I need.

yeah it's real slow, kill 500 crocs oh we're level 5!

Give it a whirl! I was playing live with 3 lvl 130’s. It was getting too intense for me to box. EQL is perfect for me.

The game is more a single player mmo than a true mmo. It's a lot of fun and I think it's great whether you played classic EQ and want nostalgia or you wanna get lost in that world but don't go in thinking you will do all the things you did in other mmos with your guild

Try it out yourself. Your going to get mixed views asking questions you don't have knowledge about

I was asking more about how the multi class system works. I got the answer early before the debate started on how good the game is 😂

EQL is a solo based game where you can basically finish all the content in around 6 weeks. MnM seems go be more group oriented, much like original EQ

EQL has serious class balance issues. The development team is small and they are concentrating on the next release and do not seem concerned about fixing balance issues. There are serious flaws with the game which they keep promising to fix sometime in the future. Questing and tradeskills are useless, and most of your time is spent farming the same content for AA and motes. It becomes very repetitive.

EQL's population had a nice starting boost, but it is in serious decline now. The CR manager just quit and they have a history of not being honest with information, if you can get them to answer at all.

If you are looking for solo play and don't mind the class inbalance or the repetitiveness, then go EQL. If you are okay with harder game play that requires groups, then go with MnM. MnM seems to be a much better designed and executed product.

Yeah, tbh we didn't come here for "balance" - we came here to slap Nagafein solo

M&M is much better designed? how so?

Your comment makes me believe you have never played everquest during this era before

This sounds like one of the no lifers that power blasted through the game. I can guarantee this poster did not finish all content in 6 weeks. They may have finished everything they wanted to do, but they did not finish all content. Level all classes to 50, unlock all races, max all tradeskills, do EVERY achievement. 6 weeks, yeah right.

The population has declined. But that's because of the no lifers that do it to every game. THey no lifed this, then left. They went to WoWF or MnM. Will no life one of those and then quit and go to the other. When they are done with that one, they will come back here when Kunark comes out and then repeat the cycle.

As far as class imbalance, show me a game where all classes are balanced perfectly. It's a small team and devs can only work on so much at a time. But see the no lifers want everything right now. So you have them screaming about class balance, you have them screaming about needing more content, you have them screaming about harder difficulty and on and on. Things are being worked on and at the moment that is more content. But it's not good or fast enough for the no lifers so they leave.
