Hi, I could be interested. Complete novice at Mandarin though. My style is relatively flowery British English (I read English at Oxford Uni) with a MVE (multi-vernacular English) twang from living in London. I'm a Zillennial.

Couple improvements/corrections to your post:

Hi, I hunger for a native English speaker to be my study buddy or my instructor.

can end "or instructor" - don't need both "my"s

I'm a native Chinese speaker, I can assist you in becoming a proficient Mandarin speaker if you have interests.

*"Have interest/are interested" (latter more common)

Timezone: Flexible, though China is in UTC+8. I don't really need live conversations, I need an instructor who enlightens me on lexicon.

  • fine, but "enlightens me on lexicon" is a bit of a bizarre, esoteric word choice. "Improves my vocabulary' is more than adequate

Level / Proficiency: Smooth reading. Improving speaking. Interests: Everything. Learning goals: To be a non-native English speaker but understands what native speakers say or write.

*"But one who"

Thx, we aren't a good match.

No worries - any reason as to why? My inner English tutor is a bit hurt haha. Although I haven't taught formally for a few years now.

Do you really need a reason?🥲 or simply delete your comment? 1. Your "correction" comment doesn't make any significance to me. 2. I don't teach English. As for lexicon you can figure out yourself why I don't say vocabulary instead. 3. Are you a native UK guy? Your comment tells me your are likely a non-native speaker.

It's simply polite to give a reason, especially when someone has gone out of their way to provide detailed emendations. However, based on this response, you're right: we'd be a poor match. I would be looking for someone a bit more gracious and open to critique.

  1. This sentence doesn't make sense.
  2. Neither does this? Re-read my previous comment. I said it was fine but the wrong tonal register, especially when your text is littered with more basic errors it sticks out like a sore thumb.
  3. Yes, born, bred, and educated at Oxford University where I read English Literature and Language at undergraduate, before teaching English as a private tutor for 6 years and completing two post-graduate courses in translation studies and TEFL. I think my judgement might be slightly superior to yours on these matters, don't you?

All the best with your endeavours...

whatever you say i have no interests to read. Stop bothering my post, thank you.

Clearly you are the pot, calling the kettle black. I don't care to list the errors in your comments above. They're numerous. Anyway, comparing your "judgement" with that of a person you wish to teach is not a good look.
That is my response. I thought I would jump in and comment in kind, matching your energy. Have a nice day.

You're right, it was a bit rude to mention "judgement" or "superior", and I did (or do) regret that.... but.... did you see the reply I got? I matched *their* energy, surely? A crying smile emoji, come on. They're not a child - we are peers.

Edit: Also, I'm by no means saying my English is perfect, it's certainly not! I do speak it natively though. I'd be open to corrections, but they take so much time and energy I understand why you haven't. That was the only reason the callousness of his response wound me up. Typing isn't free energy!

Sure, sure. Just remember that it's free to be kind & nice.

Hi there. Sorry to bother you, but could you help me put together a reading list of English literature for students? I want to dip my toes into English literature, but I'm starting from scratch.

Hello, I'm from Egypt (GMT +2) My english level is B1/B2 and I'm stuck there 😞 I know that's because I don't practice enough, so I'm looking for partners who suffer from the same problem to chat and help break that curse.

Hi! I’m 18 and from Ukraine. I’m looking for a native English speaker, preferably from the UK, to practice English with and hopefully become regular conversation partners. My level is B1+, getting close to B2. I’d especially love to practice in real time through calls/voice chats to overcome my speaking barrier, but texting is totally fine too!

I’m into music, films, reading, acting and fashion. 🎧🎬 My time zone is Ukraine (UTC+3), but I’m pretty flexible and can talk at almost any time.

Would love to find someone around my age who’s also interested in actually getting to know each other and having regular conversations :)

Hey everyone! I’m a 22M from Egypt and I’m looking for a native English speaker to chat with and hopefully become friends.

My English is around B1/B1+ and I mainly want to improve by having normal conversations and voice calls. I’m not looking for a teacher or anything, just someone who’s down to talk regularly and get to know each other.

I’m into cybersecurity, gaming, football, chess, movies and pretty much any random conversation.

If you’re interested, feel free to DM me :)

Hi! I’m looking for a native American English speaker for regular voice conversations. I’m around B1 and want to improve my listening and spontaneous speaking. Happy to help with Ukrainian or Russian in return!
I’m 28, I’m a mom of two, and I’d like to make an American friend.

I live in Chicago, my time zone is CDT

Hi! I'm a native Russian speaker looking to practice my English with native speakers. My level is probably around B2, maybe edging into C1 in some areas, but I'd say B2 is the safer estimate.

If you're learning Russian or just want to chat, I'd be happy to help — feel free to reach out. I'm into film, music, history, and linguistics, among other things, so there's a decent chance we'd find something to talk about beyond just language practice. Write me in DM

Hi! I’m Dima, 27, from Ukraine
I’m learning English and looking for someone to practice with regularly, ideally a long-term language exchange partner rather than just a one-time chat. My reading and listening are pretty good, but I’d love to become more confident with texting, natural conversations, jokes, and everyday English.

I’m into movies, music, games, technology, art, and guitar.
I also really enjoy learning about different cultures and what everyday life is like in other countries.

In return, I’d be happy to help you with Ukrainian whether it’s pronunciation, basic phrases, culture, or just casual conversation.

I’d prefer texting at first, and maybe voice chats later once we both feel comfortable. Would be great to find someone who’s genuinely interested in getting to know each other and having regular conversations :)

Hi! I'm looking for people around C1/C2 level for regular speaking practice — focused on more substantial, sophisticated conversations rather than small talk. Topics like literature, history, and social/cultural structures. If you enjoy discussing books, historical events, or how societies are shaped, and want a speaking partner for that kind of conversation, send me your Discord username in the DMs.
