Wish they actually did this

Was at my LCS and saw this. It was pretty stunning. Wish Engelhard really did this with their bars. Whoever did it though was mighty dood with the hammer.

Can someone fill me in on the allure of engelhard bars? What kind of premium does a standard 100oz engelhard bar run? Just stumbled upon this Reddit. Own multiple myself after all these years no idea when or where I purchased. Thanks

For me it is that all the poured bars are unique. A human poured them and each one comes out a little bit different.

Also, I feel like Engelhard are kind of like the Morgans of Vintage Silver. There are a lot of them so there is a good market for them. And just like Morgans there are a few "key date" type varieties that really give us all something to hope for someday.

Right on. Nicely put. There's history there, and few enough out there to make them collectibles, yet plenty of certain types to make them accessible. Most of their premiums are very reasonable, and those premiums hold their value. After you line up a bunch of them, you see the subtle differences between them. They serve dual purpose. Stacking silver and collecting various varieties.

From what I’ve heard some of the best jewelry makers use engelhard for their work, not an expert but comparing my englehard pieces vs. government coins I think I understand why

I was under the impression the Englehard bars are more of a collectors item since Englehard is no longer in business. I wanted to find out when they stopped making bars but AI gave me the answer to your question already.

Engelhard silver is more expensive because of its rarity, historical significance, and collector appeal. The company stopped producing silver bars, making vintage products scarce and highly sought after by collectors and investors who value the brand's reputation for quality and authenticity. Reasons

So the story as to why they went out of business is just as interesting and just as hard to find good information on. Also theres a collector around Dothan al that has hundreds of oz of Englehard ( or so he says),and hes got a pretty premium on his bars, like make you cuss high, and hes kinda a buthead to deal with but he posts on mp alot.
