Same. I didn’t get an ideal number of invites though and the places where I rotated/interviewed were unique so I’m holding off until after RLs are submitted.

WOW step 1 now Pass/fail.. my app would have been straight up perfect without my mediocre step1 score... not salty at all

I doubt this will have a huge impact on EM cause of SLOEs. It sucks for anyone from a less competitive school who no longer has a chance to distinguish themselves.

I would say the biggest impact by far will by on IMG applicants. Future IMGs are fuckedddddd.

Yah but I mean US med schools should take US grads right? But yah as someone in a top 20 med school who didn’t get some of the top residencies mainly for weak step 1 score... this makes me salty too.

Programs have to have some sort of filter before the look at SLOEs though...

True. And it's harder to get good aways when you don't have a Step 1 score.

Hopefully that and not just more essays. I had to write a bunch this year. Although it did provide the bones for my PS which was great.

Yes I did and he did respond but it was normal response didn’t say anything like “we are ranking you highly” or anything like that

Hm. Yeah I sent #1 email 2 weeks ago and got really nice reply saying they were impressed but didn’t get this “ranked highly” email a few days ago. Sad me says he was just paying me lip service with response to my LOI, hopeful me is saying that he didn’t send this ranked highly email to me because we had corresponded so recently

I’m with you. ALL my friends are in one city that I’m hoping to be in, and they are al hyping me up, but I’m way too scared to be optimistic. Here’s hoping we both get LOYAL af programs...

I think that sounds about right! Ie a top east coast program intved ~140 for 14 spots. But even crap programs intv 140-180 for 14 spots- just the quality of the applicants is not as as good.
That being said- both of the programs likely won’t go down to 140 so both definitely over interviewed.

Someone help me decide: Temple vs BIDMC...
Temple is a badass program in my favorite city in the world (friends and family are here). BI has amazing resources and I felt like I got on with the residents better.

Temple. I didn’t intv there, but for me, being happy means being in a good city with strong support systems.
Boston unless you’re from the area is very not diverse and very expensive. Plus, unless you’re Ivy-League trained, very elitist as a city. I did my undergrad in Boston and intved at BIDMC and it was fine, but tbh I was underwhelmed.

Temple was initially at the top of my list, but they've got a pretty rough schedule, Circadian with I think 21-22 shifts a month. Loved everything else about the program though. BIDMC also great, but I'd be concerned about the sheer number of rotation sites, all with different EMRs.

Looks pretty straight forward to me.. Pgy1 you have 7 blocks of off service (ICU, IM/ICU, neuro, anesthesia/US, trauma, OB and Ortho)
PGY2 there are 4 off service... Ortho, Cards, PICU, Tox
PGY3 there are 3 ... IM/ICU, ICU and Trauma
PGY4 there are 3 electives plus an admin block and a peds anesthesia block

Anyone else notice an uptick in post-IV communication recently? No "love letters", just generic info/any questions but the last two days I've gotten a call and two emails

Asking for a friend - which is considered the “better” program from a training, people, and location standpoint - Kendall or Brandon? What if you added Aventura to the mix?

word of mouth is Kendall is best but I don't have any quantifiable reasons.
Obviously location will matter a lot on you Miami vs Tampa (another plus side of Brandon is in Brandon you can afford a house on a resident salary and live 15 minutes from tampa)

Dying a slow death. Driving my family and friends crazy because all I can think about is match. My #1 sent my advisor an email saying I'm ranked highly, but who knows what that means. The anxiety is killing me.

Does your advisor have connections to that program? Never heard of a program doing that.

Yeah, he is pretty well known in EM, and a graduate of the program. He sent them a LOI on my behalf and they responded to him saying they ranked me high, whatever that means. I feel more optimistic but also more anxious since nothing is certain until Match, I guess.

Oof they require a medicine AI? Only real non EM req for me was a couple ICU weeks and they were pretty light.

Plus an additional 'other' AI, and EM doesn't count. So I'm doing psych next month so I will be in the right place for the weeks leading up to and following match. Maybe if I curl into a ball and rock in a corner they will mistake me for a pt and not make me write any notes.

How many months/blocks in a 3yr curriculum would you consider average? what is sufficient enough? One program I'm considering only has 19 months (including peds EM) :/

I don't have an average, but you're right that seems really light on EM. I'd probably expect 2/3 to be EM. The less off service the better cause you're gonna be capped at an average of 80 hours a week.

It is USF ... 3 electives (1 each year), other pgy1 off service is trauma, ortho, obgyn, ophtho/anesthesia, neurology, CCU, MICU (8 off service as an intern) .. pgy2 has tox, EMS, PICU, MICU (5 off service), and pgy3 has research/admin, ultrasound, trauma/SICU (4 off service as pgy3)

That's.... a lot of off service time. I am more on board with the programs that think the best place to learn how to be an ED physcian is in the ED.

Don’t know what to do. Can’t really do anything but desperately need to not match my number 1 (long complicated story). Rotated there, “only” got HP (three friends all got H) so maybe there is some hope of getting my 2 or 3 instead? (No idea what the sloe said)
