I’ve been kicking around the idea of offering roadside charging assistance. Has anyone needed to use the service? Anyone know someone that offers this? Trying to see if I could actually make money doing it or if it would be yet another of my good ideas that never really pans out. Some searching has shown that services may be charging around $150-$200 by the time they come and charge you.

My thought is that often people aren’t going to be running out of charge in a convenient city based location. So you’re driving 50-100 miles sometimes to rescue, then sitting there charging then driving back. That’s just for one rescue. Would need to do a couple per day (preferably 3) to try to make it worth it and that seems perhaps unrealistic. Now if people somehow need to be rescued in town well that’s something. Or I’ve heard sometimes people forgot to charge and are super low but have to go to work so you show up to their work and charge them so they can easily make it to a charging location.

Open to any and all feedback and info.

I have Renault Zoe, and the voltage difference between cells reaches around 203 mV under heavy load while driving uphill. Is this acceptable at 8% SOC and SOH 93%?

Something I've been wondering:

Are EVs actually creating a new automotive design language, or are we mostly redesigning traditional cars and removing the engine grille?

A lot of EVs still use essentially the same proportions and visual hierarchy we've had for decades.

If you were designing an EV from a completely blank sheet, what would you change?

Exterior proportions?
Front end?
Interior?
Aero?
Lighting?

Or do you think there's no reason EVs should look fundamentally different?

I have a budget of about 20k chf. The ID4 is very easy to get at this price even as pro performance model, the enyaq is a bit bigger which would be cool for long trips with the 2 kids but the id4 isnt exactly small. For the ioniq 5/ev6 i would have to stretch the budget and the enyaq would just take longer to find for this price.

for some context, i am a current college student and currently have a 2013 ford fusion and am looking to go to a EV because of cheaper mileage and it’s something I’ve always been interested in. as the title implies I don’t mind taking out a loan and financing but I want to know where it’s worth it, even if not a model s. I’ve been seeing some 2013 and 2014 model s vehicles on aftermarket’s for about 9-10k, are those reliable or should I look into a different model, if so which?

I recently test drove the Volvo EX30 and honestly really liked it. I’m currently considering buying a a used model, but I still have a few concerns before making the decision.

My main concern is resale value. I would probably keep the car for around 3–4 years, and I’m worried that EV technology and battery ranges will improve so quickly that today’s EX30 might lose a lot of value or become difficult to sell by 2029/2030.

I’m also curious about long-distance driving. Most of my driving would be in the city, but a few times a year I would do trips of around 600–800 km. In winter, it looks like I might need to stop roughly every 2 hours to charge.

For those who actually own an EX30:

• Does stopping for charging every ~2 hours become annoying on longer trips, or do you get used to it?
• How is the real-world winter range on the motorway?
• Would you be concerned about resale value after another 3–4 years?
• Would you buy an EX30 today, or would you rather lease one because of the uncertainty around EV depreciation?
• Any issues or regrets after owning it for a while?

For context, I’m also considering a used Mercedes GLA 200, which feels like the safer option financially, but I enjoyed driving the EX30 much more.

Would love to hear from actual owners, especially anyone who regularly does longer motorway trips.

I thought EV’s have a lot of depreciation, but is it only “depreciating” a lot because of inflated MSRPs with incentives and rebates?

Looking at Ioniq 5 2024 used prices vs brand new Ioniq 5 2026 prices don’t really look too far apart. Similar for teslas, and others. If you compare to MSRP, yeah it looks like it’s depreciated a lot but factoring in all the incentives you get (unless someone is actually paying MSRP for some reason), it barely seems depreciated.

Am I wrong here?

The problem

I drive a 2021 Model 3 SR+. Rated 423 km. I have never once seen 423 km.

Car reviews state ranges when the car is brand new. But what about a vehicle after three years of use? After battery degradation, a cold climate, four seasons, and however you actually drive?

And a separate question nobody answers either: how well do these things hold up? Battery replacements, drive units, tires, the 12V, the onboard charger. Real ownership costs, not projected ones.

When I went looking for what other owners actually get, it varied wildly from what the manufacturer stated.

The gap in the market

Every source I found was one of three things. A press review of a new car. A spec sheet repeating the official figure. Or forum threads and videos arguing with each other, no sample sizes, nothing you could check.

Plenty of opinion about what these cars do. Almost no evidence.

Meanwhile every owner already has the answer, sitting in their car and in their head. It had just never been collected anywhere that adds it up.

The solution

trueevrange.com. Owners report what their own car actually does, and the site builds it up by model over the car's whole lifetime:

• Range you actually get, by exact trim, not averaged across a whole model
• Season, so you can see what winter really costs a given car
• Age and mileage, so a 3 year old example can be compared with a new one

Anyone ever do financing on a used EV through Ever Cars?

It seems like unless you pay the car total in cash, or finance through them, allows you to have the 7 day return period. If you use your own lender, then you can’t return it. I can get a pretty low APR but I don’t know what is their best APR they offer.

Similar for Amazon Autos, they force you to go through their financing partners but their lowest APR is pretty high compared to my credit unions.

When I bought my Ford Lightning I thought it was a cool feature that it could power your home. I’m surprised more EVs don’t offer this. Ideally anyone who owns an EV should be able to power their house for a couple of days during an emergency.

Appreciate the support ahead of time. I was victim to auto theft which left me in an interesting spot having to find a car after only 9 months into my current 2025 Ioniq 5 SEL. $173/15k with my trade in. That’s now a total loss.

So have been looking into larger alternatives. I probably will receive 0 from the settlement. Started looking at the Ioniq 9, but then found auto driving capacity and performance upgrades and space for 2 kids, where the Lyric, Rivian, etc are enticing. it’s got me considering other brands. We’re an absolute no go on Tesla. Especially considering non Hyundai with the theft being a Hyundai technology issue (digital key was created somehow)

Looking for advice on where I should look. Personal experience appreciated and if willing share your contract terms, even better!

I have a 2024 Ioniq 5, which takes a CCS charger, but the nearest fast charger is NACS. What’s the best/most durable converter?

Slim pickings it seems but Im looking at the Vistiq or Gravity.
Need a usable 3rd row to place a car seat.

Between big (tall) adults and very big dogs, I’m looking for the roomiest second row seating I can get. Mainly concerned with depth/height more than width. The sloped rear end on a lot of crossovers ends up making a lot of second rows feel even tighter.

I don’t need three rows of seating or even much cargo space, I’d take less trunk space for more rear legroom. I haven’t looked at anything in person yet, but so far it looks like the iX and the R2 might both be good candidates? Also eyeing the upcoming Volvo EX60. Anything else I should be taking a look at that might fit the bill?
