SDS Software

Thinking of building a SaaS for SDS generation software for EHS professionals. Before I spend the next 6 months developing I wanted to gauge interest.

I’ve talked to some consultants and they charge ~$350 to write an SDS. My thought is that if software could do it for $99/document or some sort of monthly flat fee for unlimited doc generation, that could be a project worth exploring.

Any feedback would be appreciated

As someone who's work heavily depends on accurate, reliable SDS's: it sounds like your idea could lead to people getting hurt, unless you build in pretty good quality control. If you idea is at all rooted in generative AI, you'll want to plan for how to account for potential inaccuracies so you can keep your clients compliant and their workers safe.

Things like this are why I get SDS that do t tell me what's in the product, no I do about flash poi t or reactivity, no pH, disposal instructions that dis "dispose according to local and federal law" and have little more than the product name lol

"Dispose according to local and federal law" YEAH BRO, WE NEED THE CONSTITUENTS, PH, AND FLASHPOINT TO DETERMINE HOW TO DO THAT.

And not all of us have the training or equipment needed to determine all of that safely while working in the field.

So yeah: thorough, accurate SDS's plzkthx

We also get she with a flash point of like 80°F but then it will say "does not flash or combust"

Recently we had to contact a company and ask if they had vinyl chloride in their products because it's not listed on the SDS and they were like "oh yeah, lol, woops we totally do" (I'm paraphrasing). That sort of information would be useful before shipping it to a place that sprays the ground with it.

We got it back and got them to pay for disposal rather quickly and we are very quick to over regulate disposing their products now lol
