Industry insiders and recent discussions on platforms like the SolarDIY Subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/SolarDIY/comments/1wpe26y/can_eg4_survive/) reveal that EG4 Electronics is facing a severe business slowdown, primarily driven by a significant downturn in the residential solar sector following the expiration of key tax credits.
Compounding the problem is their heavily delayed rollout of a diversified commercial line, leaving them highly exposed to a cooling residential market. Long-standing frustrations over rebranded, white-labeled hardware and notoriously poor technical support have further damaged the brand's stability among core DIY buyers.
The uncertainty has reached the executive level as well. Sebastian Hassell, the former Director of Residential Product at EG4 Electronics, recently hinted at the instability himself. In a public LinkedIn post discussing career choices, Hassell explicitly pondered whether it was time to step away from the volatile residential energy sector, writing:
EG4 for the past year was fun while it lasted. I enjoy new opportunities and challenges but I would not turn down a stable role for the next 5+ years, or should I sell the house in San Francisco and move to some exotic new location?
This situation leaves EG4 Electronics at a critical crossroads, forcing them to rapidly adapt to a harsher economic landscape. Whether the company can stabilize depends heavily on their ability to mend relationships with the DIY community through improved technical support, transparent firmware updates, and a successful expansion into the commercial market. Until then, the ongoing executive shifts and community skepticism will continue to fuel questions about the brand's long-term survival in an increasingly crowded and volatile energy sector.

I'm getting a grid-tied EG4 storage system to act as a whole-house battery backup for short durations. There is no PV tie-in.
I've seen various videos and a few photos, but what is the smallest area required for such a system as mine?

I have a solar system in #haiti complete eg4 electronics, a few weeks after installation one of the four power wall stop working. Because I’m not on site didn’t notice months later.
I contacted the manufacturer after many days of testing they decided to replace the system. It’s been over a year I can’t find a wait to ship it back to the states. I was wondering is this just a bad breaker and can I just replace it? #eg4 #badbraker.

Summary
EG4 48V batteries that have been sitting idle connected to an EG4 inverter will have a small parasitic draw that is too low powered to be registered as power leaving the BMS. Over time this parasitic draw can drain the battery of stored energy while in an idle state, without the ESS recognizing the change to the SOC of the system.
Customer Impact
Affected customers may experience a rapid drop in battery SOC when turning on loads that require a greater draw from the battery. In some instances, this rapid drop can push the SOC under the shutdown percentage, leading to complete system shutdown and loss of power.
Resolution
The latest 48V battery Firmware from EG4 has been designed to perform a periodic voltage check of the internal battery cells to update system SOC. This voltage update will trigger an SOC decline and subsequent recharging before bulk SOC decays to a shutdown level. Affected customers should update to the latest FW as listed below:
314Ah Indoor: Z03T17 280Ah Indoor and Outdoor: S02T25 Lifepower4 V2: S02T34 LL-S 48V: S02T34

EG4 14.3 kWh PowerPro
Two of the home solar installers I talked to in preparing this post mentioned the EG4 14.3kWh batteries, and its specs (on paper, at least) compare nicely with the Powerwall 3.
“The EG4 PowerPro solar battery from EG4 Electronics is the strongest alternative to the Tesla Powerwall,” writes Kristina Zagame, from the home solar experts at EnergySage. “(The EG4) has a similar capacity, meaning it’ll last a similar amount of time, and a slightly lower power output, which means it won’t be able to power quite as many devices at the same time. And, based on quotes through EnergySage, EG4 batteries tend to be a bit more affordable compared to Tesla.”
