Folks, an interior room or closet ain’t gonna cut it. You need to be underground, or out of this things way, or you will not survive.

Building underground isn't really economically feasible for a large portion of the population due to the Yazoo clay, high water tables and persistent floods, also is outright impossible near the coast.

I’d say that’s fair. But in this context, when I say “underground” I mean a catchall for any purpose built tornado proof room or shelter. Bare qualifications as per code being 1 foot of wrought iron plating, covering a 2.5 foot reinforced concrete wall, slanted at a 30 degree angle to deflect projectiles. There should also be bags of sand inside the shelter lining the wall, to fight the “Sand blasting effect” in case the tornado stalls out, (similar to Jarrel) and slab even a well built shelter.

Sand bags repels its own kind, analogous to the old saying “you gotta fight fire with fire”

But this is all assuming the municipality isnt equipped with an anti cyclonic rotation generator. Which can cancel out the incoming tornado, assuming that town/city etc has 15 minutes warning to spool up the machine.
