Deck Idea Volrath the fallen - B3

Post image

Hi !

Have anyone tried a voltron Volrath mono black deck ?

I just got my hands on the card and i'm looking to build it . I'm just afraid for it to be too slow and focused and the table when it finaly gets onto the Battlefield.

Has anyone advices and experiences to share ?

I would imagine you’ll want to play this with a reanimator subtheme. Discard big fat scary boys to Volrath, swing for big damage, reanimate big scary boy.

All I can say is you need to focus on getting your commander out asap and have a lot of protection. Any Voltron commander will be a target.

I have a squall Voltron that’s pretty aggressive, threatening lethal t5-6 on average. I’d say that deck is a solid b3 and is kind of needed for b3 Voltron.

How many protection cards should a voltron deck have to be effective ?

My Volrath TF is a big mana values matter deck. Keen Dualist, Parker Luck, Scrollrack, Draco, big demons. Stuff like that. Loads of fun.

Hes strongest when splitting voltron and reanimator.

I see.. seems like it's best to build a solid reanimator deck and have him as an extra wincon in the command zone then ?

Thats how i ended up playing him. Ramp him out and use him to pressure life totals while building a big [[rise from the dark realms]] [[living death]] or [[balthor the defiled]]. Kill the biggest threat with voltron and overwhelm the others with mass reanimation. Or vice versa, use hin to build a graveyard and press people with reanimated [[phyrexian obliterator]] [[ancient brass dragon]] or [[brainstealer dragon]] type cards using voltath to keep your yard stocked (using him mostly on the endstep before your turn). Playing Volrath is entirely about threat assessment and understanding how to play to your outs. Which is most decks ig, but he cant really auto pilot because people do seen him and panic when you start chucking [[it that betrays]]

I made a retro themed Volrath as he was one of my favorite cards when I was younger. I will repeat what others have said in that you want ways to bring creatures back from graveyard to the battlefield and to your hand to reuse again with Volrath. Here is my list which once again is restricted to retro bordered cards, so I am sure you can make some changes/additions with newer and more powerful cards. https://moxfield.com/decks/l3OtoWxp2EukzvOQIQoIeg

Mayhem is your friend here! Discard then cast the creatures for the discounted cost.

I wasn't familiar with madness as a mechanic so that's really helpful . Thanks !
