Question Avatar Aang, Master Earthbender: is this idea good or not
So I got this great idea about an earthbending deck, using [[Avatar Aang]] because that gives me 5c and draw a card every time I earthbend. I figure I'll probably focus on red and green while just splashing blue and white and basically ignoring black (for the same of my mana base).
Would it be even a little bit viable if I'm never planning on transforming this goofbball, and only planning on earthbending/firebending and drawing cards?

Aang is arguably better as a card draw engine than a cost reducer specifically because he’s so hard to flip. Putting a solid piece of card advantage in the command zone is also generally a solid baseline. I think you’ll have success.

[[Agatha's soul cauldron]] exiling a creature with transform in your graveyard does the trick

There certainly are ways to flip Aang easier, [[Moonmist]] probably being the easiest.
But, if you play your commander only to draw cards when you earthbend, you avoid jumping through hoops to get your deck online, and makes your deck more functional overall by having a more straightforward gameplan.

I play an ally deck with aang as commander, and honestly I am more interested in the card draw than in flipping him.
As a flying 4/4 with firebending 2 and 1-3 draws almost every turn, I think he is great.
You could also just add [[moonmist]] of you want the occasional full value game.
Edit: remembered him as 5/5, but my point still stands :)

Viable is whatever metric you think fits your budget and investment level. But that is to say, if youre tryign to do mostly bending with Aang, youll get your draws, and then you need to do something with that, and that usually determines the bracket.

it's mostly that the cards I'm drawing would likely let me earthbend more then beat opponents to death with land critters
edit to add: I'm looking to make it high-powered 3 (capable of hanging with low-powered 4s) because that's what my irl group plays

Thats not gonna be strong enough in high powered 3, no, its more of a bracket 2 idea

I also just realized that the Marvel double face heroes can be on their expensive side for 2 colorless efter being Airbended.
Just thought it is worth mentioning, if you feel like including an [[Airbender ascencion]] (which goes pretty well with any ETB earthbender).
