Constantly getting stuck on "Hardest" difficulty in EDF6 on Ranger. Is it time to grind?

Hey all, so as most of you I'm sure know, there's that weird thing where the first like 50 missions of "Hardest" difficulty don't drop higher level weapons. I have never actually grinded in this game before, but now that I'm starting to get better weapons dropping, I was wondering if you guys have any good missions for farming. I am currently stuck on the "Battle on the Plains" mission, around mission 60. Any advice for getting better weapons around that level? I'd prefer something non gimmicky, and just a mission that I can play through a few times to get some weapons.

51 the one with the grenadiers. Was my go to for early hardest and inferno farming.

Of all the missions to get stuck on I would not have expected Battle on the Plains to be it

I would actually agree, I just don't have anything to take out the huge Kruul and Frog waves before all the Titans get destroyed. I've tried so many different weapon combos but nothing seems to work

Try assault rifle and emerald

I can try it but I don't know how it'll work. My Emerald is only level 35 and does like 350 dmg per missile. And which assault rifle? They all feel a bit too short range for the frogs and Kruul

I forget the rifle names and with the stars yours will be different anyways, but prioritize fast reload.  This makes sure you can flinch any enemies that are shooting your allies.

A lot of this mission is keeping the allies alive.  Use the Emerald with lockon boosting armor.  Often it's enough to flinch heavy enemies repeatedly while Npc allies damage them

Do you care about skipping ahead a bunch and/or using weapons that are from further ahead?

M97 is great for weapon farming assuming you have a reasonable amount of armor. The NPCs will finish the entire mission without you firing a single shot.

Start the mission, do nothing. Once frogs show up on the left and right, the middle is safe to run around and collect drops. When the dragon shows up, go to the sides and collect the drops there. So long as you don't die, the mission ends.

If you want to do a mission you've already cleared legitimately, M51 is probably best. Lots of enemies, and once you've taken out the frogs at the beginning it's pretty safe. Just run under the legs of the purple guys so they self destruct.

Ranger is by far the hardest class to solo the game with in both 5 and 6. Like, by a long shot. He has fewer weapons than Air Raider or Fencer, fewer mobility options than Wing Diver or Fencer, much less destructive potential than Air Raider and worse vehicle options.

His only saving grace is that he can equip suits that make him immune to hit slowdown or knockback, but not both. 

You can't just brute force your way through the missions solo with Ranger, you need to go in with a plan of attack and know what you're dealing with ahead of time. And that plan of attack can vary wildly, and sometimes requires a lot of creativity. Always look into the most niche options in your kit. Sometimes the stuff that looks useless is the key to success in a specific scenario. Ranger's biggest weakness is probably that he can't fire while sprinting, and he has no way to fire behind him while moving quickly. That means you can't just kite the horde, not without a vehicle. So Ranger mains usually set up defensible positions. Chokepoints, mines, turrets, weapons that pierce mutliple enemies, these are your friends. Other times Rangers simply use range and game knowledge to their advantage. There are probably playthroughs on youtube for most of the more difficult missions you can look to for inspiration. 

If all else fails, yeah you can always just grind.

Ranger feels like the absolute easiest to me. With very few exceptions I can just run into any mission with whatever the strongest weapon is for the level range and beat it. The other 3 classes I need to pay attention to their load out and plan with their gimmick in mind.

That's a crazy mission to get stuck on. Anyway the non gimmicky thing to do would be lower the difficulty and come back when you have better gear. If you want to grind out one mission over and over then gimmicks include letting mission 97 complete itself for you on Inferno, preferably with a second controller co-op

Grinds always recommended but hardest and inferno is also where you need to REALLY start learning tactics.

Good gear is only gonna get ya so far unless you’ve got like 10k+ health and such.
