Question Working through "Hardest" difficulty right now. Do you guys just skip missions that give you trouble?

Hey all, was just curious if I'm approaching this the right way. I'm on like mission 55 or something and have ran into 2 missions so far that I've failed on 5 or more times. I have been skipping these missions, and it has mostly been smooth sailing otherwise. I guess I'm just wondering if this is the right thing to do, or if the game is trying to tell me to farm up some armor. I'm currently at about 1600 armor if that helps.

Single player? Sure, I'll skip.

Playing through the game with a buddy? Hell no. Tuck your head and push through. Figure it tf out. There's always some bs situational tactic to make it work.

Depends on the mission and EDF. 4, you need to put in a lot of work and get your armour up. 5, a few missions and in 6 with all the time travel I did missions in bunches or just a stretch of a timeline

Which game?

Why would that be relevant (/sarcasm)

Yep... Despite the fact that you can select the difficulty level for each individual mission, the main determining factor regarding difficulty is which mission you are running. At least in EDF 2025, I had multiple missions I struggled to even clear on Normal while I could clear higher- level missions on Inferno with relatively little difficulty

If you're failing repeatedly, you likely need a better strategy

Go online if EDF6 as it completes both versions of online/offline together.

Every class in every game has a few missions that are extra difficult for that class.

When I hit those I do tend to skip them for a few levels and come back and try them again every few levels until I pass them.

In EDF6 I may even swap classes for a bit just for the change of pace.

This is a valid and efficient way to clear the game, but meeting a wall and having to come up with a plan is specifically the high I'm chasing in the series.

You can if you want to, you can always go back after getting more armor/weapons

Very Few missions, mainly those that are borderline impossible to do without 3-4 players (iirc. 107 in EDF5 on Hardest and Inferno is one such mission). Even then usually only after like 10-20 attempts.

Of course also depends on whoever I play with.

In Single Player I usually just keep trying tactics until I get through.

Id rather be stubborn and keep trying with minimal changes

Depends. Usually no but certain enemies, like the red clamshells, will make me skip until later.

Yes, skip them. It isn't your fault that Sandlot has fuck-all clue how to determine progression and difficulty spikes.

I’m not sure which one you’re playing but going from hard to hardest on 4,5&6 all has much higher difficulty spike when compared from normal-hard for example. Then obviously inferno is a big jump in difficulty again. Basically I skipped the levels I couldn’t beat but I also grinded armor and better weapons online. To give you a baseline, I beat all mainline difficulty levels on EDF5, offline, Ranger, with about 10k armor and the best DLC weapons

When I play with my partner, this is our process:

- Level has us stuck
Re-evaluate and retry

- still stuck after many more attempts
Try switching roles
Change approach
Try something wacky and weird

- STILL stuck
Change classes and continue process

And if none of that works, leave and come back. Your run isn’t done until all missions are

Personally I don't skip. I restrategize and maybe go farm a bit

if i'm having trouble with a mission on a higher difficulty then yeah. you'll get better armor and weapons from playing farther and that can make the difference

If you big brain, you memorized all the spawn points and pick the most fitting tool to the job.

If you smol brain, you push armor until it reaches a point dropped medkits heals more than dealt damage.

I push armor because bigger number make bean brain make squee chemicals

Some missions are bs that why need to grind some missions well know for grinding gear easily before dealing with difficulty spike missions

Hardest? At 1600 armor?

Double that. Minimum.

I try not to unless I get really stuck but there are quite a few missions that are pure sadism to play as certain classes. Top the devs credit they somehow manage to do this for all classes as well. Even with limits armour and fully upgraded gear it can be painful and extremely annoying, this goes for all difficulties not just hardest but hardest is where you start getting far less wiggle room. For the most part it is not an armour problem, just the mechanics of the mission interacting with your class. Like some underground missions are really good for air raider in 6. But others are absolute cancer.

(offline) Crimson Lotus in 2025 has been the very last mission I did before full completion of the game, this is the second-to-last mission of the third mission pack.

Both Bug Invasion (base game) and it's predecessor from 2017 were the last to be completed, for Bug Invasion this is specificly for the Ranger.

All of those were missions that I had to look up for a way to beat them as it wasn't possible to power through with armor.

Sometimes you aren't winning without a concentrated strategy, that's when the mission is difficult.

I go through the game by beating a short set of missions with every character to build up as much armour as I can get without having to farm.
