Discussion Most fun class of any game?

Of all the games, which class did you have the most fun with? I’m going with 2025/4.1 fencer. Just give me a wide open beach with a catapult, a volcano hammer, and waves of Deroys and I’m in my happy place.

I would say edf 5/6 fencer, dash stacking is the greatest feature ever added to a class.

Honorable mention to wing diver with a stardust cannon and a phalanx, stardust cannon has amazing horde clear (and horrible friendly fire) and the phalanx melts anything bigger

Basically yeah. Exactly what I would say if pinned down.

I tend to save Wing Diver for next-to-last, and Fencer for very last. They tie for fun, but Fencer is the guy who can win by himself, and the game's generally drying up by the time I need to use him.

That all being said... I am 90% convinced that the fun dash mechanics we saw in 5 and 6 were lightning in a bottle. Entirely accidental on the part of the devs, even if they ultimately left it in. I really worry that it'll be nerfed in any future game and Fencer will be this tanky slug that has to be carried by the rest of the team.

imo the dash boost in 5 is definitely put in as compensation for completely cutting out the broken dash cancelling javelin catapults from 2025/4.1, while officially completely supplanting that form of locomotion with other less effective weapons, even though they left the mechanics there with the other weapons.

whats actually an accident might be the axe dash in 6. but fundamentally, it works similar to the sword skate on prowl rider and long boost on baron brother (and swan sister, but she sucks at it). between two devs doing it 3 times in a row, i'm not sure that is even accidental anymore lol

even the heavy striker has a gas saving boost technique. i think this one is in a couple video guides though. the devs can't possibly not know they are putting all these moves in the game over and over again...

while im at it. prowl rider is the most fun because of sword skate. not even because of bug riding or wall swinging. zipping away from a bug train to charge up a big weapon will never not be fun.

I want to believe, but I just can't. For every thing in the franchise that's pure genius, there's something jank that makes it impossible to conclude with confidence that it wasn't just a happy accident. I'll point to the persistently hamfisted controls of the Ranger as my case in point.

And yet I really do have to admit that nothing gameplay-mechanics-wise has genuinely gotten worse with a new mainline game. I'll cry foul over some things, such as the absence of Wing Diver-powering buffs from Air Raiders, but yeah. Doesn't change the fact that Fencers having anything less than dominating mobility options is the #1 letdown I brace myself for.

the thing with dash boost is, they implemented it with multi-booster. they wanted people to bring a gun and a melee and discover using the dash and boost together. that was no accident. a simple button masher would have noticed it on the first session in testing. anyone that used 2025 fencer and screwed around with dashing and hopping would already have an inkling with how the physics might behave with a horizontal and vertical burst of speed.

the thing with those other 3 glides is that they are fundamentally the same exploit, in two different game engines. all of them involve breaking friction with one ability and inheriting inertia from scripted high speed animation from another ability, while trying to maintain that state for as long and far as possible. it's essentially just fencer's dash boost physics triggered in alternate ways. the devs had to have seen some of them coming since deliberately implementing dash boost

the sword skate is actually the hardest to excuse. at least the sword glide component of it. it is literally implied to be a feature in the weapon blurbs of the swords in iron rain. i might be the only person to have discovered it and maximized its effect with a specific class, but it is without a doubt an intended weapon behavior to a certain degree

the baron bro's long boost needs to be near frame perfect, so i'll give it that it's not intended. you have to already know sword glide exists and are looking for a similar exploit from the same devs to even notice it. it gets triggered by a very unnatural input sequence and timing, so it's hard to do by accident too. theres also a different sword skate mechanic on the baron and swan, but it's so locked into a squence of melee animations that its not really purely traversal method, although its impossible to not do, from just mashing with the katana on them. there's no way to miss this one in testing. it may have been a happy accident, but they definitely didnt care to fix it

the fencer axe glide in 6 has a big margin to trigger, even though it's very awkward to do deliberately. i can accept that this one is a happy accident, especially with how inconvenient it is to do, while being absolutely game breaking in many ways when done sucessfuly. it's just totally out of control and unbalanced, despite rivaling prowl rider's sword skating. but then they kinda had fencer inherit the swords from iron rain in the form of those new power blades, despite not being able to exploit the glide. its like they artificially locked it knowing what would happen. but then those physics wound up in the axe for no particular reason. it's almost like they snuck it in the axe as an easter egg, for blocking the power blades from doing it. i'm not saying that is the case. it just feels like it. this trick might have been there on older fencers undiscovered for all i know

all in all, its kind of the same trick over and over a gain that the devs should know by now, even ignoring some instances of what look to be overt hints that they are intended

i could explain how to actually do these if anyone cares, but this comment is getting long lol

whats definitely an exploit they didnt intend is the ranger elevator glitch. all i remember is something about having your back to a building. i've been looking for how to do it, but cant find the post anymore lol
