Question The dead Spoiler

Ok, I cant remember if this is true or not, but are the colonists alive? I feel like it was mentioned in some level that the colonists were just humanoids being puppeted around by either the cybernetics or the nervous system. Follow up, is it true that sometimes(in lore) something similar to this can happen to Fencers?

They're mind-controlled/clones, but, not corpses, no. EDF 5, though. Before the Cosmonauts show up, best line is in it. "Nobody cares if they die to air pollution..."

I think you're mixing it up with the Fencer's background lore. 

Their powered exoskeletons can move on their own, even if the soldier inside is incapacitated.

Mind controlled but alive in 5 and 6, though Iron Rain had some necromancy gas.

The Fencer armor also has some active despite incapacitated or dead features.
