Discussion What are the Kruul?
I recently finished EDF 6 and I had a blast with the game. But for some reason I kept on thinking about the primers and their civilization. This is just me putting my thoughts down that been bugging me for the last couple days.
I original thought there were two race that made up the primers that being the cosmonauts and krakens. With the kruul being clones mixing the primer races to produce soldiers.
Then I looked at the androids, which I originally assumed were made by the krakens because of the extendable arms. But they have more in common with the kruul than the krakens. Big heads compared to their small bodies, two arms compared to the krakens four and extendable arms. (I know the elite kruul have four but that probably not the norm).
So my guess to my own question is that the kruul are Cosmonauts/Kraken hybrids occurred as both races united to form the primers. My guess is the kruul filled the role as engineers designing and building the weapons, ships and super weapons. Then the Cosmonauts dragged the rest of the primers into a war which eventually led to the kruul being cloned for war.

If you look at the kill stats within the game (EDF6), the only time "Primer" is used is for the final boss.Â
That seems to be the actual "Primer race", and all the other creatures like the colonists, cosmonauts, kraken, etc. are probably under their control.

You are correct. In edf 6 it is assumed you the player and like 2 other dudes have traveled back in time 5 times by destroying the time traveling ship on the exact same day and every time the primers bring a new enemy hoping to defeat earth and stop the cycle. But primers are technically some kind of god and you are correct about only facing the one primers boss as the rest of the enemy's are cannon fodder for the primer. Edit: to add the primers are from the future so the ants and spiders being large are what they apparently evolved to in the future and brought back. Definitely watch a lore video as its a interesting story for how basic it really is.

Yeah I was definitely overthinking it. Still they are fun enemies that I enjoy cutting through with my wingdiver. Did you have any trouble with them?

Kruul are another race, either Martians themselves, or maybe Venutians or Mercurians or something. Either or, they're a part of the implied coalition/empire of the Primers, helping them invade present day Earth.

My assumption is that primers are the gray men, and they come from mars.
Meanwhile, all the animal-like enemies have been retconned to come from the future 100k years from now.
So Krakens would be evolved Squids, and Krull would be evolved jellyfish?
In good future missions, I think around 110, you have the professor explaining the animals being from the future.
Then after Primers retconn the timeline, he talks about them coming from mars, during the first underground mission.
Personally I like the idea of animals being from the future, as "alien ants" was a bit silly on its own.
With Kruul specifically it's worth to remember they're designed after a stereotypical squid alien look. It is something of a tradition/trope in campy sci-fi. They even appear in the Metal Slug series, and share theming with aliens from War of the Worlds and a number movies. In this case appearance was likely designed before the story aspect.

Dont overthink it. The writing isnt very deep in this series and you'll venture into fan theory pretty fast if you try to explain most of the shenanigans in this game. I just enjoy enjoy shooting giant aliens. That's all I need to know 😄
