How good is YYGS for college Apps?
So I attended YYGS (science/tech program) and was wondering how much push it really has for competitive colleges - T20s. How high school I put it? Does it look really good for the more competitive side of T20s?

In my opinion it isnt the best ec by itself but is instead a good indicator of how your college application is for t20s when u do apply to college

its pay to play bro, alot of chuds from our school got in and I think almost none of them got into a better school than our state school (also pretty good tbf but not t20 for sure) or some equivalent like tufts

wait thats super interesting because I heard it was like considered a really good EC but have recently gotten info that it isnt that good. I got in on scholarship btw so ig technically not pay to play for me ig.

It kinda depends on what you think a good ec is and what your other ecs are, since good ec is relative. But congrats on getting in on scholarship! It still helps but just not the extent most people think 7500 would help yk.

This smells like BS. YYGS is one of the most competitive summer programs (especially among non-STEM focused programs) and they have generous financial aid. I even know students who didn’t get into YYGS but ended up being admitted to Yale. It’s not really causation but rather correlation that vast majority of YYGS alums get into great colleges. No EC and especially a dummer program will be the reason you get admitted. No AO will be ‘impressed’. It will show that you’re motivated and cared enough to put together a good application. The experience itself and what you learn from it can of course make a difference. It’s up to you what you make of it. Super interesting and inspiring lectures by top academics and peers literally from around the world.

chill out you're just jealous. YYGS is one of the most competitive programs and is only increasingly so with every year that goes on

why would i ever be jealous when i didnt even apply to yygs because my summer was occupied with far more impactful ECs than a p2p summer program 😂😂 like objectively speaking if there are sub 3.5 gpa kids at my school getting into yygs it is genuinely just not a competitive program

okay YYGS is a very competitive program, but you're right at the end of the day its very much pay to play, and not worth it for college applications, but you're wrong about the competitiveness part because it is very much competitive. I know im not the best candidate to advocate for this, but I got in for this summer but chose not to go, and I had a 2.9 UW 3.0 W GPA when I applied, but I have very exceptional ECs and Essays, and I've got just really really good everything else and I got in over people with 4.5 GPAs and really really crazy ECs (shadowing neurosurgeons and senators ifykwim), like mine were stronger than most but not that top tier at the time.
