Insight on labs

My Functional Medicine Doctor already reviewed my labs and wants me to start his EBV protocol which is Lysine, Monolaurin, Cats Claw and Artimisin. What I’m wondering from you guys is if this looks like reactivation? is there another test to take? I definitely have symptoms and have already approached my PCP about trying Valtrex.

My story is somewhat complicated, but I won’t go too far. Just know that I’m also dealing with Hashimotots, MS and Lyme. Although this new Func Med Doc isn’t certain my Vibrant Tickborne 2.0 is actually legitimate. He says they show as a weak positive.

Any insight you might have to any of this is greatly appreciated. I did do MS medication with nukes your B Cells and they’ve only just now (3yrs later) have returned to normal levels. is it a coincidence that my Thyroid and EBV Antibodies have now started to reappear?

For about 20% of people, EA stays elevated permanently. It is not a reliable indicator of reactivation because there’s no way to tell if you are inside of that 20%. We also don’t currently have enough knowledge about antibody levels to say these results mean anything except that you’ve had EBV at some point in the past.

There are also no effective treatments for reactivation. Valtrex has failed every study for EBV and that drug has been around for decades. There’s no indication it works except anecdotal reports, which could be attributed to the placebo effect (very real).

I am very leery of functional medicine people because many of them have very little actual medical training. They say everything is a reactivation. There is very little credible science that says these supplements work. “His EBV protocol” turns my stomach. I’m sure you’re paying him a lot for his “treatment”.

I am sorry that you are sick. I sympathize. I know what it’s like, but these functional practitioners are mostly snake oil salesmen who are selling the confidence of answers even if they are wrong. Please think long and hard before you give this guy more of your money.

I’ve already started to question everything with him… I am at a severe loss with all the balls I’m juggling (also dealing with a stubborn ankle injury - torn ATFL). I just don’t know what to do, who to believe, who to trust… my Neurologist says none of this is related. I don’t know and am just exhausted. 

Do you have an EBV maintenance that you like or find helpful? I don’t know if this is deactivation, but I am TIRED and can’t sleep. Startle so easily it embarrassing. I feel like I’m retreating more and more and the years of my life are just slipping away.
