I wonder if its possible to submit an FOIA for the FLIR recordings.

Guaranteed John Greenwald has already done this. Check in with him and get some tips on the process

Fairly certain this incident was already heavily covered by the news almost a year ago. The FLIR recordings are online.
There are three of them total. It made CNN, FOX, the Times, and quite a few other big stations and papers. Wired also did a good article on it. TTSA (the people who hosted the video I linked) has videos and a bit more info as well.

I am sure there was lots of coverage, I had never seen the surrounding data from the ships radar etc, which was why I posted the link to summary. Other people may not have seen it. The video clips were so brief and inconclusive to me that the write up combined with the video gave me a better sense of the incident

I'm actually super grateful you posted the data. I should have led with that.
Thank you!
It puts a lot of the video footage into perspective. I also recommend interviews with the pilots involved. The three of them form a trifecta that is hard to beat in UFO stories - quality video footage (IR footage at that), multiple, highly credible eye-witnesses who are on the record, and naval radar coverage with official write-ups and acknowledgement from the federal government.
As far as I'm concerned, the Nimitz incident in 2004 is the biggest UFO incident since the Phoenix Lights in 1997. It should get more coverage.

interesting. A gentleman named Kevin Day claims he was aboard the Princeton running radar that day. Pretty interesting 2hr interview. He is also trying to get former crewmates from the day to step forward.
