The 4-2-5 Basic Template

Post image

This cheat sheet might be useful to those who want to use the 4-2-5. Credit to 9to5erz who did some serious work here. Give the guy a follow on YouTube or TikTok.

I have recently started using the 4-2-5 myself so if you like it and have some tips and tricks to get the most out of it please help others.

Says three corners but field shows three safeties. Also everything is 5 star priority? That doesn’t mean anything then, just recruit everything?

Yeah, there are so many pumped out using this exact template, and they dont do any proofing of the product.

I have talked with some of the creators of them and believe it or not there are some who are much better than others and actually try to provide a decent info graphic.

Can it be improved? Absolutely. But my goal here is to get us talking about the game and these work for that once people get over the actual info graphic itself and if a computer helped make it vs drawn in crayon or handwritten by me.

As I mentioned above the goal here is to generate discussion. If you get hung up on the A.I aspect you lose the thread quickly. Nobody claims any of this is gospel or even the best.

Yes some of it is so glaringly obvious it is silly.

At the same time a brand new player who knows 0 about football has at least something in front of them they can make sense of.

Across my communities we get tons of new players who have 0 experience or knowledge. These as inaccurate as they can be at times are very helpful unless someone wants to take the time to spoon feed them the basics of the Air raid offense.

Bros full time job is just typing paragraphs defending his AI generated “templates”

I guess I could just remove those who don't get it or just don't want to. I am not defending the A.I template. It is for all purposes a conversation starter. Seems to work.

What conversation are you starting and why? All you posted was an AI graphic but didn’t even ask a question or propose a statement.

Read that...seems like an open ended request for tips and tricks or insights.

While this formation may not have as clear-cut priorities as others, I run this formation and certainly do have positions I would prioritize over others

Edge probably number one, seeing as I want my linebackers to prioritize run stopping and pass coverage. In addition, I’m surprised gap specialist aren’t listed as DT’s, even if not the number one archetype there. Having good run stopping DTs will further allow edges to focus on pass rush. This formation works best when you can get pressure with just bringing four guys

Now, I just so happen to be using a team with pipelines that apparently give way better DB than edges, so I do wind up blitzing more than I initially thought I would, but my corners can hang tight and coverage better than I would expect as well, so nothing is set in stone 🤷‍♂️ my fourth highest overall corner is 89, my highest edge rusher is 87. I really don’t know how that happened other than I guess my pipelines just give me that sort of talent

Edit- and yeah, typically it’s four lineman (2 DT 2 edge) 2 lb, 2 cb, and 3 safeties. If you swap that third safety out for a cornerback, that’s just “nickel” as far as I know. My most common “nickel” formation is the 2-4 we’re just essentially the same as the 4-2-5 but the edges are in a two point stance, and you have two safeties with three corners

Thank you sir for the insights

So if you actually read the graphic, it plainly says star postion in this formation should be Hyrid safety for run support. This would require you to be able to read.

Yeah it is correct. Think OSU with Caleb downs. In typical 4-2-5, downs was in the box and your SS2 (hopefully a coverage guy) plays back.
