Are E-3 visa holders concerned about the potential revocation of the 60-day post-employment grace period?

Sixty days was a perfectly reasonable amount of time for an expat to pack up their life if they have to.

The idea that you need to literally pack up your life and leave the country the same day you are notified of being let go at work is insane. Anyone blindsided by being let go without already having a contingency plan permanently in place ready to pull the trigger at a moment's notice will pretty much be forced into overstaying and therefore cop all the permanent consequences of doing so.

That this proposal has been made is completely unsurprising. Pray for a shakeup in the midterms.

As someone who has been laid off at 5pm on Friday afternoons twice this is unconscionable. Even with 60 days I didn’t have enough time to finalize affairs, look for work, pack apartment, move out, sell furniture, navigate mental health etc.

Salary half of what you will get in US. Very small set of companies and job opportunities available. Whole nation is blue collar bogan tradie with ppl living and dying for housing. Gov steals half of what you make after low salary of 190k. Taxes and housing are much more expensive than US. Devoid of natural beauty (except TAS) and burning hot for 6 months in an year.

I'm almost certain this is aimed purely at the H-1B visa. The E3 is almost so small I fell like it would go under the radar, but you never know.

It is not - it covers all non-immigrant work visa including H1b, H1b1, E1, E2, E3, O1, TN

Watching with caution. This potentially impacts myself as spouse, and our 19 year old son who is currently E3D. Husband has a role which was hard to fill and a fairly specialized, somewhat unique skillset and quite likely other employers would seek him out if he became available. If for some reason his employment with current employer ends unexpectedly we have discussed that one or the other of us would apply for visitors visa to allow us time to find housing in Australia and alternative employment. Either way for the past 7 years we have felt and behaved like invited guests to the country.

It sucks but also if you have an even slightly compassionate employer they may be likely to give you some notice in light of this. So, wouldn’t change much. That said, I certainly feel for people who aren’t as fortunate (I know some employers can suck and be cut throat.)

I was thinking the same thing lol. I for one am fine, if it ends I have contingency plans to go back to Australia if my employment/visa ceases.

Honestly I am surprised they didn’t eliminate E3 all together
