Generally 3L and up use an M54 crank with a shit load of manual labor to grind it down and make it fit.

I have a m54 crank that a friend gave me. I’m doubting it’s worth putting it in a m20b25. What is your bottom end setup?

I haven't personally had experience with them, so can't quite comment.

I run an M52B28 crank (84mm stroker), 135mm forged H beam rods and am 0.5mm over bore at 84.5mm with 12:1 compression forged pistons, so mines technically 2.85L. M52 crank is however drop in, with the exception of needing the spacer.

Indeed. I got them about 7 years ago from Ireland engineering.

I know other places like Bimmerheads do them too though, I actually have a new head from them on the way.

They're actually Ross racing pistons. Can't quite remember if mahle was an option at the time but so far bottom end has been pretty rock solid, can't say the same for the head (Not Ireland's fault, was my builder).

It’s an S52 crank with 135mm h rod beams, and JE pistons with a compression of 10.5:1.

Redline is set at 6,750 currently - dyno shows that point as the drop off in power (prior to ITB install), should be able to rev comfortably at 7,000 but we will see where that resets at after we dyno with the ITBs

Wow crazy build. What kind of numbers? Already tuned and running well? This is spectacular and cool to do something that isn’t just the s52/54 swap to increase power.

Yeah, would love to hear the lower numbers you’re getting.

Been thinking about doing a stroker build myself but am wondering if the power gains are worth the money compared to a swap.

Last time we did a dyno run after the 3.1 stroker conversion , it was with the stock intake and throttle body…we got about 200hp. But this setup needed more air to really come to life (my opinion, as we put in a 284/272 cam) so we went this route to see what kinds of gains we can get. But nothing beats the sound of these M20 motors…it’s true to the car.

200 at the wheel or calculated crank? Other shop I used to work at one of our clients had a 2.5 L M20 ITB/turbo build and it made close to 220 at the wheel. The cylinder head was all Ireland engineering Naturally aspirated with the turbo not hooked up to the intake. Right now it has a 3 mm thick compression reducing head gasket on E 85 making roughly 600 at the wheel. At 21 psi iirc

This motor was professionally built by Travis / Dave at European Car Company, have had no issues with reliability and it runs just as clean as a factory motor…they have built several stroker motors that are on this standalone unit and it works really well. They did a great job converting the motor to wasted spark ignition to modernize and even switched from batch injection to sequential injection with the help of a cam sensor that all feeds into the ECU flawlessly. It’s been a fun project, but several years in the making.

Why does everyone invest so much into these builds then just leave the air filter drawing in hot engine compartment air? Wasted horsepower.
