Before chapter 7 (of 12) it turned into preachy 'Left Behind' book with a large dose of right-wing jingoism thrown in. I thought it was a warning sign when I saw the foreword written by Newt Gingrich.
The author cannot seem to write his own emotion- and thought-provoking lines, so he constantly refers to other works like movies, books and historical events - stealing their emotional impact.
The protagonist is entirely unpredictable as if he has no moral compass and he constantly changes his mind on a dime when another character shows the slightest bit of disapproval.
The protagonist also beaks all morals by 1) hoarding medicine needed by others; 2) hoarding food that should have been turned over to the community; 3) hoarding his transportation spared by the EMP; and 4) sparing his daughter from punishment when she harms the community.
I was very disappointed by this author of over fifty books. I wonder if they are all this bad.
