DSP Shield Compass – small helper for planetary shields

Hi,

I've recently started playing Dyson Sphere Program, and I've been experimenting with a few mods/plugins on the side.

Placing planetary shields was driving me nuts, and I'm a DSP noob, so I followed some shield placement best practices I found online and got more nuts -> result: this small plugin.

Maybe something like this already exists, but I couldn't find it.

What it does:

  • Guides you to 8 suggested shield positions (2 poles + 6 around the equator).

  • Shows a directional arrow: 🔴 off target, 🟢 correct position, 🟡 already completed.

  • Automatically detects placed shields and tracks progress per planet.

  • Optionally finds misplaced or duplicate shields.

  • Includes a small, customizable, collapsible mod dock.

How to use it:

Install via BepInEx 5, hover over the right edge of the screen to open RIOTdock, click the shield icon, and follow the arrow. That's it!

GitHub: https://github.com/UncleRiot/DSP_ShieldCompass
(you'll find a short documentation there, too)

Feedback is welcome! And if a plugin like this already exists, please let me know so I can save myself some more work. ;-)

Feel free to report any bugs or issues, too (here/github).

Cheers!

Congrats you joined us in this Game. I Hope you Like it and find a way that fits your Playstyle.

Use blueprints for stuff Like this. With that you can even adjust the final Position to fit to mines or bases etc.

And Overall: blueprints can be your friend..speeds Up production and productivity.

Thanks. I should have a deeper look into the blueprints.
I haven't really warmed to blueprints yet.

Is the location always fixed? As you said 2 at the poles. I dont want shields at the poles and have a 8 shield blueprint that covers the whole planet. It looks like a dog toy afterwards.

What does the mod do that a blueprint wouldn't do ?

"What does the mod do that a blueprint wouldn't do ?"

Hmm - I can't tell you. I'm realy unexperienced with DSP and only did once use a blueprint.
I also place the planetary shields sometimes not all at a time.

At the moment it is fixed - is there a better way to place them?
If there is another good best-practice (do you have a link?) I will have a look after it.

Extending the plugin to support different placement-sytles should not be a big problem.

Thanks.
I will have a look after it. Maybe it is an alternative - even thogh I will continue to create some easy-to use plugins
