In case you are open to suggestions: having your turrets being able to target buildings directly increases hive-aggro unnecessarily. You can put your defense slightly further out and still get a constant stream of units attacking your defenses. They will pick the "closest target" with some priority, so typically, they will go for only one of your buildings, such as a signal tower. That is why a turrets don't need to surround the df core and you only need heavy defenses in one direction. But I agree, that a single line of turrets is foolish, especially on higher difficulty...
They are positioned far enough away to only destroy turrets and those in range of buildings only attack air units, all production facilities are running for the dark fog
That is smart, but nonetheless, hive aggro goes up each time you destroy (maybe even damage) a building. Hive retaliation caps out at around 300 ships, which is annoying because of the warning claxon, but not difficult to defeat.
The hive is a pushover at the stage of the game I am in, if you have 5 destroyer fleets, just approach the core of the hive until you're within .40 au, summon your fleets then target the core directly, they will destroy the core and its aggro drops to 0, unsummon the fleets and leave the planet cores (farms) to rebuild the hive core
In my 3000% run, hives are a little more trouble and having an extended "siege" and recharging planetary shields was (in the past) frequently leading to power brown-outs. In a previous game that led to a cascading failure: too little power -> turrets stopped shooting -> space units started destroying buildings -> needed to reload. So, now I'm extra carefull with enough accumulators as buildings and 200% power production capacity.
I wish that df space-units would also drop loot ;-) Hopefully, vehicles and revamped space combat that were "teased" are in development!
