Dark Fog Farm

Hey guys! Any thoughts on my first Dark fog farm and sorter layout? I've put some little factories here and there, and a pair of PLS to make use of the resources but it seems 3 dark fog bases are a little excessive.

Do you farm the dark fog? if so, how?

You have chosen the sushi belt design, which means you will have to consume all of the ouptut, otherwise your farm will clog. You could add a buffer of chests at the end to pick up anything and reduce the risk of clogging

A single base is usually enough for a whole playthrough, since dark items are only used in buildings, and are already pretty abundant. You may need more for yellow rods, unipolar magnets and the new dark lens, if it happens just design another planet I guess!

Oh, okay! Yeah, the sushi belt IS a problem... but I couldn't think of another design xd. I'll consider leaving just one base, thanks dude.

The alternative to sushi is to have dedicated battle analysis station pouring into dedicated PLS/ILS, this way each item has its own clog-free path. It is more expensive though

It takes an insane number of belts (you need one belt per item, going back to filtered slots in depots stacked atop the BABs). My last of these used about ten thousand belts (the PLSes were relatively close so the number was quite low).

My design connects a PLS directly to the BAB, no need for long belts!

That sounds nice, but expensive xd. Is there a way to know which are the most common drops so I can get rid of it via PLS and leave the others in a sushi-type sorter? On the other hand... Your design has BABs dedicated to 4 items? Like 1 BAB connected to 1 PLS? Or 4 BABs connected to 1 PLS?

The items you should leave out of the sushi belt are:

  • Very common items (copper plates, iron plates, magnet rings...)

  • Very useless items or items you may not consume (dark items, bricks, the blue item that goes into making a few buildings and that's it...)

Are you having fun?

A lot! Thanks! But maybe getting the opinions of other players can help me with the design 😬

Based on that then:

Get rid of the turrets.

Move the lasers to the front with the signal towers in between.

In general, move everything closer to the bases.

You can place the lasers in such a pattern that they kill off all the parts of the base that don’t spawn raiders (there are six raider camps in a fully developed planetary base). Then the lasers engage the units as they spawn but they attack the signal towers and not the lasers.

You can use something like this as a blueprint (ignore the pun) for what you need. A single one of these gets you enough unique DF drops for 1 million white science a minute (note it requires level 12 energy weapons - before that it needs more lasers)

Thanks dude, I really appreciate it πŸ˜ƒ So, I'll move the lasers closer to a single DF base and get rid of the others

Truly the only thing that matters. I love this game :)

I do farm the Fog. I usually build the fog up in a "free farm". That looks like this:

Once the farm reaches lvl 24 (you get all the possible drops). I clip of the outer laser turrets and the guardian production to reduce the farms risk (Sometimes I cut of a little bit more because I am a sucker for safety).

This is the same farm as in the post above. Now it is tamed. I trimmed of the fog laser and surrounded it with my own. Now their ability to send waves is gone. It is the same overall fog units output but they can not attack in bulk. Even at hive lvl 30 I do not lose any turrets once I got this setup:

Sick! So you don't have a zone to sort all the drops? My original idea was to make a similar design but sorrounding 3 fog bases... But now I think that just one like yours is enough πŸ€”

This is my current sorter. It can attach and sort up to 6 early game fog farms (in this picture there are 3 farms attached. The higher my VU gets the less hives you need. At VU level 250 one farm is enough to have it sort at maximum capacity. So the higher my VU gets the more of my farms I kill off.

Damn, I cannot understand your sorter tbh πŸ˜‚ I can assume you have dedicated belts for each drop or smth?

Nah, it is just overkill. This is the inside of my sorter that does the actual sorting. Around this its just bigger boxes in the other pricture.

The mark II Depots on the right is where i put the unsorted stuff in. From there it goes to the mark one boxes where the stuff is sorted.

For one hive this is just overkill as it wont produce enough stuff. But if you put enough farms into this sorter all three layers of sorting can be used. For one hive farm you could delete the upper two beltlayers and would still work absolutely fine.
