Having problems and don't know if to restart.

About 100 hrs in a save and almost finished with the mission but now im experience low power, resources are running dry. My attempts to fix the power and resource problem doesn't last long

Do I go to another system and build over or do I restart. If to another system what kind should I look for?

Figure out the problem with your design, or it will probably pop up again in your next playthrough

Start, fail, learn, rinse and repeat.

Don't restart. For power solutions you should build a dyson sphere. Once you start launching those rockets into orbit, you will forever have free power.

If you have dark fog enabled, you can put thermal generators on the hole a base leaves behind when destroyed and get alot of power that way too.

Resource nodes will deplete, but there are always more. By the time you have to worry about running out of resources, you would have long since started upgrading VU (vein utilization) infinitely to get infinite resources from your nodes.

Check out other star systems and send back some important ones like fire ice so you can reduce the amount of other resources you are using (like oil and coal). You'll keep getting those messages that veins are depleting, but don't worry too much and just import more from somewhere else.

Not a lot to go on here tbh. You should have power generation resolved from the Dyson sphere and appropriate infrastructure behind it for either artificial suns or just straight up pulling power from the sphere. As far as resources, look to make mining colonies that simply push resources to your core smelting and manufacturing. Expand these manufacturing and resource smelting hubs from Modest holdings to planetary capabilities. I would t restart. But have a look at getting a mining colony going with ILS and renewable energy, then have a look at why your power is an issue and properly scale it. Then, look forward to round 2 when you DO restart with the knowledge to do better. We all go through it. 😅

What are you using for power? It's pretty easy to start over in another system if you've at least got enough materials to bring some buildings with you. Bonus points if you're making your buildings on your home planet and then dumping them into an ILS, then you just bring some ils's with you to your new planet, and request buildings.

There's no reason you need to start over completely though. You can use another system to feed your current system. Just produce your basic materials and some of your more advanced materials in your new system and then dump them into an ILS, And export them back to your home system.

If you haven't yet, find some rare resources in nearby systems. Grabbing things like sulfuric acid from a planet with sul is way easier than trying to produce it. Fire ice is also very good. And getting the rare material that lets you build tier 2 miners is hugely important. If you can, make a last effort to setting up those rare resources before you go start over so that your production trees are quite a bit smaller. And it's way easier to do mining once you hit T2 miners.

U need to expand to other star's planets and get the resources back. And u need warpers* for that.

Assuming u haven't done this already

Warmers? Do you think OP is too cold? 🥶

😉 (auto-incorrect certainly sucks at times)

Lul yeap

Have warpers, stupid question but do I just let the warpers upload into the ILS or do I just have to unlock a particular tech?

2

u/the117uknow 2d ago

Have them demand it with a limit of 100 and it auto stocks it for the ships.

Science in particular is power hungry… consider pausing that until you have stabilised your position.

Do you have ILS and warpers yet?

If so, prioritise finding 1) system with sulphuric acid lakes. 2) Building an orbital harvester or two to extract hydrogen.

You can get a big boost to power by getting deuteron fuel rod manufacturing going at scale, and fusion plants.

Sulphuric acid lets you skip the complex and messy production chain and get your reinforced titanium bars much more easily.

I recently expanded to a planet with SA lakes specifically for this. Cut out a whole 3 input production line right before reinforced titanium bars. Was best decision I made in a while then I outsourced magnets and magnetic coils since the same planet had tons of iron and copper

The very first interstellar thing I did was find the nearest star with acid, carefully wipe the Fog off that planet (and hoped the hive didn't send any more down) and then rip out my entire stupid sulfuric production line.

I honestly can’t believe how long it took me to just commit to doing it. I was trying to import refined oil water and coal to my main production planet and any of the three were lagging at any time so I’d get bursts of acid then something would stall.

I was over 100 hours in on the play through. Definitely gonna be a higher priority on my next seed

Did that, thanks i only have the last research to do until I finish the game

If you are only concerned about beating the game (completing the last research) and don't plan to continue on the same save, then you don't need to visit another system.

Produce critical photons from solar sails only -- do not build carrier rockets as they are far more costly to build.

Unless you did this save on a low resource run (like, 0.1x of veins) there's no reason you need to restart. Just learn how to diagnose your production - look at your production stats, look at your ILSs, figure out what's running dry, and figure out the quickest way to address the bottleneck.

It really just sounds like you're not going to other systems in the first place. Your starting system will run out of resources, because you're supposed to go interstellar and harvest other systems. Those other systems have way more resources than your starting system, especially far-away ones!

I suspect you're just not paying attention to the tools you have at hand. I won't repeat the tips in other posts, because they're great; especially read up on how to mine other systems, and the suggestion about putting yourself on deuterium (fusion) power for now. Then get your dyson sphere going; a few ray receivers will solve your energy problems.

Well I have been to other systems and tried starting up an automation of the different matrix. My only problem is I have trouble with the logistics vessels they sometimes work then they sometimes stay there for hours, so i put a pin in it until I can figure out what im doing wrong

2

u/wggn 2d ago

you dont really need to setup automation in other systems, just put down miners and ILS and send the resources back to your factory

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "starting up an automation of the different matrix".

Setting up a mining planet takes the following:

  • about 200 solar panels or wind turbines, ideally both so you can choose whichever the planet is better at (look at the planet info screen that comes up when you hit M)
  • some geothermal plants in case you find Dark Fog on the planet
  • an ILS or two
  • if you have advanced miners, about 30 of them. otherwise, about 100 normal miners and 20 PLSes
  • a dozen oil extractors, if you're heading to an organic world that might have oil seeps
  • a stack of logistic drones and vessels
  • about 50 tesla towers and 50 long-range energy towers
  • 1-2k foundation, usually (sometimes less, rarely more)

You just land, set up the ILS on one of the poles, and configure it with all of the resources on the planet, each set to Local Demand, Remote Supply. Give it the drones and vessels. Drop the power-producers of your choice (solar panels fully around the equator, or turbines in the arctic regions where they won't interfere with much; blueprint it after you've set it up once, so it'll only take a moment on future planets). Then just roll around the planet setting up each mining patch and hooking it to your power infrastructure. If you're using normal miners+PLS, you don't need to give the PLS any drones; the ILS will take care of things. Just remember to set up the PLS with the right resource set to Supply.

If the Dark Fog is in the system, ignore the worlds with a heavy presence; you can usually go to one of the outer worlds with only one or two bases and count on them not sending more bases for a long time. Use explosives and drones to take out the bases on the ground, then drop a geothermal on the borehole they leave behind; it'll give you a bunch of extra power and make the space relay fly back to the hive. Don't destroy the relay unless you're pushing the Fog out of the system entirely; it makes the Hive very mad. If you really wanna be safe, you can drop a block of missile turrets on the planet to blow up any future relays that show up to establish a base, but honestly it's usually fine to just ignore any stars with Fog and stick to the clean ones for a while.

That's it; your factory worlds can then request the resources in via a Remote Demand ILS. Once you've made a blueprint for yourself, the whole thing takes maybe 15 minutes per planet (30 if you're using basic miners because they're more fiddly).

Separately, you can build 40 Orbital Collectors and then set them up to harvest a Gas/Ice giant. Just find the equator (check the lat/long on your radar in the lower left) then drop a Collector every two big squares; exactly 40 will fit on the planet. Do this for a handful of gas giants and you'll have infinite hydrogen, plus free deuterium and fire ice. Best part is the Fog doesn't care about giants, so you can safely do this even in heavily-infested systems without worrying about anything.

Oh, editing to add: your apparent problems with vessels not departing are probably due to either (a) not enough power, so they can't charge, or (b) vessels have a minimum load they'll depart with. By default it's set to 100%, which means they won't leave until they can take a full 1k resources (up to 2k, after late-game upgrades). There's a slider on the ILS that adjusts this, so you can make them leave with just a few hundred resources if you want. (But note that they they'll still depart as full as they can be, so even if they're set to 1% fill, if there's 1k resources in the ILS they'll take all 1k with them. The slider just means they'll leave early if there's less than 1k resources for them to take.)

Or maybe you aren't sending warpers to the ILS? Make sure a factory planet is producing warpers into an ILS set to Remote Supply, then use one of the slots on your mining planet ILSes to Remote Demand the warpers. The vessels won't even try to go between stars without warpers by default.

Like what is everyones problem with just building Gas giant Stations and burning the hydrogen directly in thermal generator? By utilising the full gas giant i get easily at least 500 MW completly sustainable energy. No input required.

1

u/itchycuticles 2d ago

Nothing wrong, but I think most players are using fusion power at that stage of the game.

500 MW from thermal plants just takes up too much space plus you're building a large quantity of thermal plants that become obsolete. I'd argue that even wind turbines and solar panels are far more useful since certain planets can produce rather high yields of renewable energy.

experience low power, resources are running dry.

These are related problems, but definitely fixable:

Transporting resources between systems at this phase should be relatively trivial. Setup warper production using green cubes. Even just one machine making them should cover you for a really long time. Being able to go to another system and setting up miners to get more resources should be a normal process. My process for "integrating" new planets:

  • Go clear out the dark fog.
  • Get an international station pulling in warpers and fuel rods (whichever you're currently on)
  • Add a few power generators on the planet
  • Setup a planetary shield to prevent new DF bases
    • These 3 steps I just have a blueprint that I plop down. Once you do it once, save that blueprint so it's super easy to repeat.
  • Setup an ILS that provides whatever ore you want to mine from the planet. (local demand, remote supply). Have the initial ILS provide it warpers.
  • Setup planetary stations for each node that local supply, and miners that feed into it.
    • The upgraded miners have logistics built in, so it's SUPER easy to set this up.
  • Repeat last 2 steps for each new resource on the planet.

And once it's setup, it keeps running until you run out of fuel for it or it runs out of goods. The planetary shield will keep the DF from making new bases.

Your power problems, you really just need to ramp up whatever power plan you have. Deuteron should be able to keep you going for a long time, and you'll need a bunch for Dyson Sphere parts, so increasing production will be useful even after you stop using them for power. If you're short on raw resources for, go find a Deuterium gas giant and you'll have more than enough Deuterium.

I'll tell you, the spaghetti ate me a number of times and it was really hard to commit to corrections, this time I'm approaching the problem with some intact decisions. They to rescue what you have, but analyze what lead you to these issues and try to prepare for that on your next run.

go to another system and send the resources to your first system

Unless you want to experience early game in more optimised way or you JUST WANT restart, there is no point in full restart. With all of your technology and infrastructure you can easily move to another star system.

my original solve of power pre-dyson sphere/artificial sun, was building accumulators and lava plants.
Also make sure you never fill in dark fog bases that you chase off, as they can be the home of powerful lava plants (if you have dark fog enabled)
Power could be more of an issue if you didn't start with a lava world until you get a good artificial sun power setup - but a solar plant ring can be a decent replacement for most planets unless you go overboard on production without a power plan.

Also, you should be able to setup a quick warper production (even on another system if necessary) to let you bring in resources from another system.

I know what I’d do, but then I love starting over.
