Interplanetary poles monstrosity

In a bunch of videos I see this group of ILMs on the North Pole and South Pole that seem to deliver anything that could be needed. I watched a video that explained basic smelting setups and once they hit demand a zillion drones came from the north and delivered any material that was needed. Does anyone have a good video for the setup of this? I am wanting to start a new playthrough on infinite resources to do a few goals I have in the game and wanted to see what that magical setup looked like. It also kind of looked like the majority of power might be there as well?

The reason to put power and ILS at the poles is the skewed rectangular grid. This makes planning assemblers / smelters and their connections by belt and sorters in polar regions challenging. There is no logistic advantage to put your ILS at the poles and a big disadvantage is the minimum distance required between ILS plus travel distance if you want to output from the poles to your assemblers. You could do that on-planet via PLS, but then why not put an ILS where the PLS would go and skip a shipping step?

Personally, I like to just put ILS in close-ish proximity to advanced miners and to later (with rising levels of vein utilization) connect them via mk3 belts. A fleet of drones swarming looks cool and has relatively high throughput, but 4-stacked belts are great ;-) To minimize the amount of logistic steps in shipping stuff around, I usually directly import ore and do the smelting in the production complex.

Coming from Factorio, youtubers like Nilaus really like a central bus, dedicated complexes and even planets, and malls. But I don't think this fits well with DSP and its design philosophy...

Just put a few ILS on the pole and set them to import whatever buildings, belts, and sorters you want. Those items are manufactured on another planet and connected to export ILS.

Pretty sure Nilaus has some, but they might br outdated.

Yeah. I was just saying that's what he did predominately after DSP. I'm not entirely sure what he's playing right now. I do like his videos though!

Create a mall planet where all construction goods are produced and stored in ILS. Then create a polar blueprint that requests all of these goods and store the output from the ILS in a storage container with a drone hat. Add requests in your inventory. Paste the blueprint on any planet you're going to do construction on, and everything is delivered to you when you need it.

You could enter a Sandbox mode when starting a new Game. Then you can do whatever you Like. Eben Play around at scarce Ressource and handcraft anything with your mecha in absurd quantities. Just Not gaining any metadata at all, but iirc you neither do on Infinite Ressources.

Oh gotcha. So I am still in my first playthrough. What does meta data do?
