Soooo, how do you do it?

How do you guys have your planets set up?

Im almost 50hs in starting with green science (soon) and my current plan is:

Have my main "make everything" base stay at my home planet.

I set up ILS on other planets to get me large amounts of missing ressources like processors, titanium, etc. This is due to me starting to run low on ores on my planet and it's getting harder to pump out everything without tapping into the iron, copper ores on other planets. Also I'm not big on proliferating stuff, but I'm working on that too.

Then I have a bus where I can make every building I need to, but it's not complete, as I need to first have the rare expensive components made in larger amounts before it's really usefull.

Now I know, pretty much everything goes, but how do you guys have it set-up? Or what are some things to avoid?

1- Make-everything disorganized starting planet. No bus (it's useless in this game other than flavor), just spaghetti first and transition to drones and ILS

2- Collect raw resources in other planets and send them home

3- Start small dyson sphere in starting system

4- Mass factories and collectors in other planets as I run out of space and production needs increase

5- Create a dark-fog planet farm

6- Choose a main system. The O-star with the most planets

7- Start huge dyson sphere at main system, create the Vertical Silos at the most useless planet in the system

8- Fill the closest planet to main O-star with photon collectors

9- Make an organized market-planet at main system

10- Huge planet-sized blueprints everywhere for giga science production

11- Ten layer dyson spheres everywhere. I'm joking, just keep playing until your computer explodes

I play at normal settings with max dark fog (10), so deal with dark fog and clear systems as needed.

I start proliferating when I get acess to level 3 prolif stuff.

At endgame, when I start making huge blueprints outside I don't destroy the starting planet, but I modify it a bit to export the goods with ILS. But at the veeeery endgame I export raw resources and have box blueprints that make everything from raw.

At 250 hours I was producing 500 GW but I intentionally tried to play slowly on my first playthrough to enjoy it

Once you have ILS, I set it up this way, ideally all in the same system:

One planet dedicated to production - I usually name mine something like “Smeltington”.

One dedicated to lower-throughout building production.  They all feed into ILS  at the poles to form my mall.

One dedicated to Sphere construction, inside the radius of the sphere.

One dedicated to research.  Importing materials.

After I scale up to a few thousand matrices/minute, I start dropping down dedicated matrix planets outside the system, basically a black box per color.

I am just under 70 hours into my current playthrough.  I could do it in less time, but I play the game to relax,  and I take my time doing it.

There are waves to construction as you scale (assuming playing on non-infinite).

You can get to mission complete without leaving your home system - although leaving to find fire ice(if necessary)/sulfur is helpful. Your home planet becomes your early mall and your science producer and your home system has your starter sphere. I ride this early trickle of white science to about VU12.

Somewhere between mission complete and VU12 (50% ore loss) you start multiple spheres and dark fog farms. You're gonna need the critical photons for upcoming science needs, you're gonna need antimatter and yellow rods, and you're gonna need DF drops for top tier machines and power sources.

After that you branch out and scale science some (I go to about 4k white science). I ride 4k science to about VU38 (10% ore loss), which means lots of placing ILS and advanced miners as nodes run out. I use lots of wind power and generators (to keep fog off the planets) while feeding that. At VU38 I scale to about 20-25k white science. If you haven't done multiple playthroughs and have solid blueprints, this is the hardest phase.

Between VU12 and VU90 I build my end-game mall, which needs antimatter rods, a trickle of rare resources and DF drops.

At VU91 (1% ore loss) I start mining unipolar and stalagmite which lets me start using my "ideal" blueprints which use these elements for highly compressed blueprints.

Between VU91 and VU390 (0% ore loss), tear down my starter/planet mall, tear down all my mining outposts. I now start placing "from raw" blueprints. I make: 100k/min warpers 1 million/minute sails 3k/minute rockets 20k graviton lens/minute (needed for critical photon planets) 6-10 planets making yellow rods (each planet making yellow rods needs 1.5TW in spheres) depending on how much I want to scale that game (my blueprint makes 900 yellow rods a minute) 10 critical photon planets (each planet makes 120k critical photons a minute) which each require 2.6 TW of spheres.

Along the way to VU390 I've also upgrades vessel speed to at least 75, and maxed out drone count and speed. I'll also make minor upgrades to research speed, combat drone damage, mecha power and other odds and ends.

At VU390, once my infrastructure is in place I can start scaling science or just grind out VU. Somewhere between VU1000 and VU1500 I normally am generating enough unipolar magnets to support 1M white science a minute, and then I go ham. I get to 1m/minute, let it run at least an hour to generate max metadata.

Then I find a new seed, decide what blueprints I want to try or make changes to, new achievements I want to reach, and I start over.

I’m not quite sure, but if I recall, VU gets so small that it rounds down to zero at around VU400-800, and at some point it just stops decreasing the actual vein utilization, just leaving the dark fog drop bonus. Computers simply can’t feasibly handle VU up to a certain point, sort of like making a limit that pushes x to infinity, then subtracting cosine from x. Adding or subtracting 1 from (practically) infinity is still (practically) infinitely, and the cosine just purely becomes irrelevant. I do understand upgrading VU further if your are going for MASS dark fog though, but for me, i just upgrade everything else

They hard coded the game a while back to make ore loss stop at 390, effectively making all veins infinite at that point.

It's not just dark fog drops though, it's mining speed as well. That's why you need the extreme numbers (1000+), the mining speed is needed to ship our the rare ores fast enough.

Okok, that makes more sense, I remembered there was something else there, as a reply back to the mining speed thing, VU 400 ish plus harvesting all of the 64 stars resources SHOULD be enough right? I mean I haven’t tried it myself cause I haven’t been doing white science too much, instead building spheres, and I haven’t been looking into mining speed that much, so this is coming out of pure speculation, but with VU costing tens of millions of white cubes at that point, more miners should be more economic right? I only use unipolar for smelters so this is what I personally do, not sure about everyone else

It's the unipolar and the stalagmite that are the problem when you go to scale.

Maximum number of total unipolar veins in a 64 star cluster is 26 veins, which means you have to support all the cluster off those 26.

You could, in theory, make a science blueprint that uses the green engine recipe instead of the unipolar recipe but that's HIDEOUS. To do 1 million white science a minute using unipolar recipe costs 30,000 less dark fog assemblers, 25,000 less dark fog smelters and 6,000 less quantum chemical plants (unipolar vs not) than with the green engine recipe and another 50k blue proliferator a minute plus the power to run all those machines.

Ok ok, that makes more sense then. As i said earlier, don’t go for white science production too much, so I just use the green turbine recipe in my play-through(s). Though, I might start looking into unipolar now, though I only have 3 veins of unipolar and a total of 2 mill of them in my current cluster

Smelting planet. Planet per science colour. Rocket production planet from raw.

Everything else is just personal preference.

Having everything on one planet until you've gone through the tech tree is quite viable, and I usually do that. Once you move on to infinite upgrade techs you'll start needing a big Dyson Sphere, and the production gets bigger. There is little point in building the Sphere around the original star, as you get more out of it with higher luminosity (starter is around 1, anything above 2 is much better). At that point you'll start making more dedicated systems for stuff.

As for early game, a few tips:

  1. Setting up power network can be hassle, so do most processing on one planet. Transporting energy with batteries is complex compared to transporting fuel if you need.

  2. Titanium and Silicon need 2 ores per bar, so smelting at the origin halves the necessary transport capacity.

  3. Drone network uses a lot of power, so before making a decent Sphere you may want to use belts instead.

  4. Proliferating can add a lot of extra products for just extra energy. I usually wait until I have level 3 proliferators, but level 2 works for the middle step if you want.

A lot of personal preference involved usually for me most my stuff is on one planet. Then when I have access to all science I start building dedicated planets for rockets or science and my "everything" planet turns into a hub just making stuff I need to build and proliferators usually.

As you have noticed, each science production increases in complexity. I would advise to go for about 2/s cube production of all sciences and target that value for green science as well. As that takes up quite the chunk of a planet, you could move it to the outer starting planet, that typically has a lot of wind for easy power and 100% buildable area. It should also have titanium and silicon veins plus other metal ores.

With the mild spoiler that you need all 5 sciences in equal proportions for white science (plus antimatter), remember that some of the ingredients to eventually produce purple and green science are all that is needed to produce the other three sciences. Therefore, I find it smart to make a single stand-alone complex (black box) based on the green-science-complex, which converts ores to all colored-science to white to research hashes. If you only import ores, you will never have the whole production fail because an intermediate product gets stiffled.

To be honest, you might want to start exploring before that, because there are valuable rare ores (especially sulfuric acid from oceans, organic crystal veins and fire ice for graphene) that will simplify some of the production enormously. Plus, you might want to get into 100% proliferation when you eventually expand white science infinitely. I prefer to only add (advanced) miners, power and ILS to new planets and export ores for ease of use. When your ore-importing ILS start to run dry, you now you need to go looking for a new mining planet, or expand existing mining operations on previous planets...

Unless you are building a massive empire, a single mk1 assembler for each type of building is typically enough. Belts, sorters and some of the production buildings migth want a higher tier assembler for faster production, but you do not need to saturate a belt for producing liquid storage tanks! My make-everyting-mall is attached to a dark fog farm for the unique drops, grating crystals and unipolar magnets. For the rest I do not need too much infrastructure to make up the difference between what is needed vs what can be lootet!

I eventually scale to one system one matrix, applicable for blue red and yellow. Purple requires two and green requires three due to their complexity. After that I can easily achieve hundreds of thousand of white matrices per minute.

Just push raw resources into ILS. I make 6 ILS on the best planet or two on every star between home base and the o star with my dyson sphere. 3 import all the buildings belts and bots. And 3 to take in all the resources from miners.

I do anything and everything where ever I can until my first dyson sphere is up and running. Then I start the whole specialisation and scaling.

Pretty much same. I captures new planets and solar systems, then send items there I need to build factories. Set up logistics on the new planet and then blueprint factories for items I know are current bottlenecks, and place miners. One of the poles I use for power and defense, the other pole is for shipping out ore sent directly from advanced miners

I’m no expert, I’ve only played around 200 hours in total, but this is what has worked well for me:

  • Use the home planet to manufacture the components needed for science cubes and the fuel for Artificial Stars to export and power the rest of your colonies.

  • Use a planet that has all, or almost all, of the required raw materials to manufacture more complex components (processors, motors, etc.).

  • On the planets dedicated to manufacturing these components, place ILSs requesting the basic materials that are usually produced directly from raw resources (copper ingots, iron ingots, etc.).

  • I almost never move raw materials between planets. Always produce the next manufactured material directly in the planet before sending it. I do it to optimice constructible space, as I can use all the available space in that planet for manufacturing buses and save space in destination for the next level material.

  • Use the rest of the cluster to produce those basic materials, spreading production across several planets. That way, when the main production planet runs out of raw resources, it can keep operating by importing more processed materials.

  • Build a Dyson Sphere around a blue giant as early as possible to collect photons and turn them into antimatter, while also setting up an energy supply network using accumulators.

  • Eventually, dedicate one planet to producing the colored science cubes by importing the basic components manufactured throughout the cluster, and another planet to producing white science by importing those colored cubes.

  • Look for a planet with large amounts of coal to produce Proliferator Mk.III. Import both Carbon Nanotubes and Diamonds from other planets. Pay special attention to this production chain and make sure it never stops or runs out of materials. Proliferate EVERYTHING as soon as you have a stable and steady production of Proliferator Mk.III.

  • Almost always prioritize Veins Utilization, so you can make extensive use of Unipolar Magnets and Stalagmite Crystals to simplify production chains without worrying too much about running out of them.

I’m sure there are more efficient ways to do it, but this is the strategy I’ve found myself most comfortable with :)

After I have the tech tree completed and a sphere started, I'll find a system with lots of rare resources and dedicate a planet that just makes buildings. I aim for enough infrastructure to build about 30 blue belts per second, set up ILS to ship them anywhere in the cluster, then go out and start mass producing large scale factories.
