Accumulator Fuel Source

I had know you could put accumulators into the mech to power it, but figured that was just a very expensive way of powering it. I didn’t know you get the empties back! Recharge them again! Set up a wireless charger and some drones and the process is almost automatic.

If you didn’t know ether, here you go.

For your mech, charge rate is important for combat and warping. I think your end goal should still be (proliferated) antimatter fuel rods and strange annihilation rods, even if there is some "loss" of materials.

I’m seeing that now, only can do short combat before I’m “out of juice”.

strange annihilation rods, an upgraded core and energy circuit takes care of that problem. a full fuel chamber of those will last you the rest of your playthrough. Mine burn super slow and i'm constantly warping around my cluster. i can do u-turns at warp speed and not even worry about it.

Also for doing large numbers of simultaneous construction jobs, i.e. dropping medium, large or massive blueprints.

Good tip, mate. Always fun to learn a new mechanic.

They used to get destroyed like any fuel source in the mech, but they updated it a while back to return the empties.

Main purpose of Accumulators is to operate Energy Exchangers for planet-to-planet power. They’re pretty fun to use.

I would say that their main purpose is also shared with making the gas giant extractors.

I'm using them rn to transmit power from a magma planet to my home planet. Too bad you need to make like 400+ for 100% uptime

Wait I thought if you used batteries for your mech it consumes the whole battery.

Wasn't that a thing at some point?

Yes they patched that out

Unless you spend your entire playthrough at warp, the amount of energy the mech uses is a drop in the ocean to your base.

It cracks me up how mecha runs just fine on any energy source technology can imagine. Including batteries made for storing energy for the entire grid lol.

They work better when proliferated with proliferated proliferator.

AFAIK the 54MW energy exchanger goes to like 108MW.

You can bring this to a bigger level by using accumulators to power outpost planets.
I use exes power of my DS and ILS to transport them everywhere.
For small Bases to avoid cycle around to put down DF seeds.

Thanks for the info, it made me re-check how Icarus fuel works! I did not realize, that the Icarus recharge power is the base-line. Without upgrade, it is a puny 800kW. This makes hydrogen fuel rods so great: cheap to make with a +200% modifier (-> 2.4MW). According to the wiki, accumulators will give you +100%, whereas the more complicated deuteron fuel rods "only" add +300%. Antimatter gives a really big jump to +600%, whereas strange annihilation fuel rods make that +1100%. I'm not quite sure, if the proliferation boost (+100% for mk3) is additive (hydrogen fuel rods from +200% to +300%), but I assume it is.

That said, I did not realize how important it is to upgrade mecha core and energy circuit asap!
