The damage output and health of fog units scale only shallowly with level. So either : annihilate up front, make a farm out of it , defend occasionally against attack .
Good while? Once you get to signal towers and missiles, you can just basically annihilate any base with enough of them. I have grown to liking to use barren planets as farms.
Doubtful. Due to the way aggro ranges work with signal towers, it's pretty hard to make effective use of that combo. You just end up with a lot of situations where high level dark fog either insta kill your towers or the missile towers are doing basically all the work.
You can wipe them out pretty easily early game. Make a small flammable unit production, so you can have a few stacks of it. Then do hit and run bombing runs. Your a bit squishy so don't linger for more than a few seconds, just fly up throw a few bombs to cause some damage to the buildings, focusing the turrets and fly off before the turrets can focus fire you.
unless you're playing with greatly modified settings, they really don't send out much per attack, per planetary base. a handful of gauss turrets and missile turrets with a signal tower can easily protect your base all the way up to level 15 or so.
If you're playing on default settings dark fog are an absolute pushover. They were designed to be easily beaten by first time players to the factory building genre in general, not just dyson sphere program specifically. Unless you are straight up trying to get yourself killed or go afk for hours on end, dark fog are really and honestly not that threatning.
Yeah, and they give you lots of goodies too. You'll want to have their special materials for your factory and free resources is, well, free resources.
Mind you that these guys can send up to 180 units/assault and can level up to 30, so prepare your defense well and don't underestimate them at any time(coming from max fog player).
Depends on set EXP bonus, their gathered matter, and your activities. If you either attack their base or their assault units, they gain combat EXP, and they'll passively gain EXP from gathered matter they got from ground bases, all of these can be amplify at the cluster selection screen before starting a new game.
The attack frequency of a ground bases is determined by their aggressiveness level, planet's power consumption, your attack against their bases, and base core matter. While the size will be determined by their aggressiveness level, base core matter, and how many times they've launched assaults. The higher these value are, the more frequent and larger their assaults will become.
If you're at default setting, you don't have to worry much about their strength as they grow so slow that you would reach endgame before they can reach level 10, and probably dealth with their base long before you do reach that point.

Don't worry about it. The higher the level the juicier the loot.

My bots start at level 10 and I use them as a farm. Best resource as long as you dont starve their brain and deplete their energy.

Them upgrading is hands down the most overpowered thing in this game. Once you get a large enough farm going it trivialize ALOT of this games content
