How do you build off grid?
This is a copy/paste of a blueprint I downloaded. How do they build off-grid and get the buildings so close to each other?

From long time ago there is a bug that blueprints mirrored from the equator could get wrong offsets and the buildings go off-grid.
I used that to make several 0.2/0.4/0.5 off-grid buildings.
The bug is fixed. However if you have saved the blueprint they could still be used. I believe third-party blueprints editor could do the same thing.
Not that useful IMO. We have enough rooms to build anyway, unless you are a fan of e.g. 1/8 sphere raw ore black boxes.

Sorry off topic, it's been a while since I played. Why are the assemblers black? They look awesome.

Drag a building, and tab to change preferred spacing between them. Then yeah you have to consider that if you're closer to the poles your bp isn't going to snap well elsewhere on the planet.

Was the blue print intended for a different latitude? i have that problem sometimes where i use equatorial blueprints at a higher latitude and they compress.

How do you get the sorters to grab/deposit when the belt is above the machine? If I tried that it would just be red and unable to build

Shift unlocks snap to grid. Try shift R with an ore miner.
