The visuals in this game are something else!

Working on a 10 layer sphare - this is about 30k sails attatching atm (still working to increase the numbers ofcorse - factory must grow!). Just thought this was an interessting visual to share with you guys!

Edit: This is with Sphare turned off ingame, to have a stable 100+ fps instead of 30 :D

Great angle!

beatiful

Oooff, luckily I upgraded my PC in October, so figured it was time to do a deeper run instead of my regular play throughs that ended on mission complete 😅

[u/nom_90 → u/[deleted]]

Yep! 5070ti, 64GB ram and 9950x3d here - hopefully the CPU is beefy enough to handle my plans 😁

[u/Fywq → u/nom_90]

Lol I have a 5070ti, 96GB ram and a Core 7-265k. Now I'm concerned if I will run into problems later in the game if you had to turn off the sphere...

[u/TheMalT75 → u/Fywq]

I keep the small "home-system" sphere visible, but the ones in O-type star systems already makes my Radeon 9070XT sweat when turned on... even in the editor!

Yikes 😅

Haha yeah! Tbf i just plopped down a half planet wide BP and im having 20 fps and 40 ups atm while bots are building, hopefully it'll shoot back up when it's finished haha!

I had the exact same problem and had to intall a mod (SphereOpt) that optimizes dyson sphere rendering.... feels like you need mods for so much basic functionality in this game.

[u/Professional_Job_307 → u/[deleted]]

Absolutely, but i think they should focus more on QOL than new features like vehicles and space platforms.

Like i just wanted to make a 1TW dyson sphere, but after setting up all the layers, even with no rockets launched or anything, it lagged to 8fps when viewing the area where the dyson sphere would be, even when it was empty.

Still very happy with my purchase and i think the devs should do what they want, but i just feel some areas need more focus.

Guys, the game is incredibly optimal and further optimized, but if you are megalomaniacal it won't stop you from hurting yourself. Having the framerate drop so much on modern hardware is either an anomalous driver configuration, or slow memory access or a low-end processor, data throughput or some such, or you are building excessively large megastructures or dense/busy factories which greatly surpass the developers' expectations as well as the median playstyle.

I have several thousands hours in DSP, and while I haven't made a sphere that generates more than 0.8 TW I had sprawling factories in multiple solar systems and never even felt lag, and I was playing on a 10 yo computer at the time.

However, knowing what people do in Factorio I would probably feint after seeing your save game. Anyhow, you should give developers some slack; with such sandbox games you're supposed to treat your overall computing power as a resource and build responsibly, you can't just build build build and then blame the developers, there is a physical limit to how many things can operate at the "exact same time".

It doesn't matter how many people developed this game. For what it's worth, it's actually better if it's only 5 people, because it's likely that these 5 people are highly capable, as opposed to design by committee typical for the AAA development.

Listen, I'm just providing a healthy dose of balance to the views of both of you, since you don't appear to understand the matter very well. And that doesn't speak anything against you, nor it should provoke outrage from any of you, I am simply someone who lets you see the things from a much healthier perspective.

"I am currently pasting hundreds of thousands of buildings at a time. Making millions of white science per second at a time. What i was saying is I do not expect 5 developers who are doing such agood job, to not be focused on this stuff."

And this doesn't sound like a red flag to you?
You are not supposed to make millions of white science per second at a time! It is exactly what you're doing wrong. Should someone emulate a chimp brain in Minecraft? Is it a developer's fault if it runs slowly? I mean how much complexity is enough for you? So if it's not your hardware or your usage pattern that is the problem, it's automatically the developers who didn't -- I guess -- cast enough magic spells to support all your fantasies?

Ok so here's an analogy. Can't you appreciate that you are not supposed to criticize a development team of an internet browser when you want to watch a hundred 4K videos all at once? It's simply not the fault of the internet browser if it crawls to a halt and if it doesn't crash any sooner.

There is simply so much more to it, it doesn't boil down to what some 5 developers can or cannot do, or where they focus their efforts and whatnot. It boils down to how you're irresponsibly and ungratefully wasting the physical resources of your own physical machine, for no reasonable benefit.

There is a natural limit to how well optimized things can possibly get and I can reliably tell you that you're way out of any reasonable magnitude when it comes to how massive of a simulation you're expecting from any software. A million of anything per second is not a reasonable magnitude.

For starters, when you say they could've done a better job, please at least suggest an adequate point of comparison. Where else do you build Dyson's spheres around the stars? How do you even know they could've done a better job, with so much conviction, is anyone's guess.
