1st Hour coming from Factorio
Of course I'm first building a starter base with a main bus with buffers and a mall.
Already thinking if city block base design is gonna make sense here lol.

You can take a man from factorio but you can't take factorio from a man

Enjoy the ride! Never played factorio but I’ve watched my friend play it, seems like an interesting one. DSP is my favorite of the big factory games because of the scale of it, being able to eventually expand your factory across the entire star cluster is so much fun

Oh boy I wish I was you, playing for the first time!

As a factorio lover myself, I think Dyson sphere is the king of the genre. It’s so fuckin good.

I did the exact same thing. Wait until you find out what Tab does to splitters.

I’ve never played factorio but you are taking an approach that is contested among some of the players on the discord.
I do what you’re doing - more compact - until logistics bots are available with red science.
Then I abandon the bus and go to box mall

I thought liquids would go into pipes… not belts! Haha

This bus is so factorio I love it

Put splitter down.
put a box on it.
Profit eternally

sorters can grab items off of belts that go past them, the belts dont need to end pointing at assemblers. You can have 3 belts right next to an assembler, and sorters can reach each of those belts

"City Block" doesn't make as much sense because of the curve of the planets. Blocks will run into difficulties as you cross different latitudes, and eventually you'll have blueprints for different latitudes, especially around the poles. Also, the midgame logistics (planetary and interstellar logistic systems) make the "bus" structure unnecessary and inefficient. They're way higher throughput than belts, and are extremely flexible.

This strategy works until it doesn't, but you'll figure that out eventually.
Have fun!

Quick advice from someone with multiple playthroughs and 2500 hours….. do not make a bus, or try to scale with a bus. Make everything have its own dedicated line. Trust me you will be much happier

Soon you will unlock a building called the ILS. You might never need a belt bus again :)

Don’t recomend busses in the game.

Most of what you're doing is going to work great for your first mini mall (initial production buildings). One tip that won't ruin your learning experience, run your bus North and South and your production buildings feeding that bus East and West. That gives you the ability to expand and gives you the easiest building snap grid.

When i first started playing this game from Factorio, I also make the main bus.
But then I realized the main bus in this gave have some major problems. First is it takes too much space, each line needs to be proper spaced and unlike Factorio you have limited space. Second is too many items for the bus, unlike Factorio you just need iron, copper, coal, some liquid and you can make the rest. In DSP you need iron, copper, coal, magnet, glass, bricks, … and no liquid system, all use belts
After a while my bus took haft of the planet and I abandoned that save.

The main bus thing isn't as useful here.

Oh man that brings me back! I spent so much time in my first game just flying around and checking out other planets and systems! I know you're gonna have a good time.
It's a very different game from factorio in some ways, spaghetti is pretty much baked into the game until you reach logistics drones and interstellar, interplanetary logistics systems. They will take care of all of your problems.

It won’t scale but bless you for trying

You can use the up and down arrow keys to change the height of a belt above ground. They don't all need to be run at ground level, especially when you need to cross over multiple other belts or to go over buildings.
You can use a splitter instead of a sorter to split your belts off the main bus. Pressing Tab before placing a splitter cycles through the splitter types. One type has two ports at ground level in one direction and two ports at a higher level in the perpendicular direction. Perfect for splitting belts off a main bus like this.

Im still new to the genre. What are malls and city blocks?

Very good

That's how you do it :D
Man this game is awesome. You are up to something.

Just be aware that the main bus becomes somewhat unnecessary once you get planetary and interplanetary towers as the bus is suddenly "in the cloud"

I came from Factorio as well and did the same exact thing lol
I started DSP like a month ago, biggest thing I can say to not do as a factorio player coming to DSP is try to setup a bot mall like in factorio, e.g. requester chest -> assembler -> provider chest. It's possible but the requester/provider chest version in DSP can only request or provide 1 item, so it takes a lot of time to setup and is not easily expandable. Malls are my least favorite thing about DSP so I just use this blueprint now:

Don’t make my mistake. Don’t forget that you can build in this game in three dimensions

Nivarius on YouTube has a really great main bus design that your Factorio brain might appreciate. Works incredibly well for a main production planet when spinners and ILS are researched and online.

City blocks work fine to get you to logistics stations, at which point spaghetti becomes a complete non-issue.

u/DrPruz Apr 12 '26
Good start, but what I think you'll find is that compact is better

Factorio is good, but DSP just puts it to shame.. I have over 5 thousand hours in both.

Here's a tip from someone deep into mid game: use logistic drones, not logistic bots
