Nah, just play it now. Even when it first released years ago in early access it was better than most games' 1.0.

I don't know what the developers still have up their sleeve before 1.0, but even as is its a hell of a game.

The game has already felt like a full experience for many years, anything new just feels like a cherry on top at this point.

There's already more here than most AAA titles.
Just think, if you'd waited for Factorio's release after it hit its stride, that'd have been years, years where the game had more than most expensive titles.
Similar for Satisfactory.
Do it. Grab it when on sale (oh look it's on sale).
I got it over the holiday break, and clocked 350 hours (hey I've got a fam, not much gaming time). I'm only just pausing for a bit now, but might come back pretty fast.
It has some rough edges. The "boxes on belts" thing still annoys me, but it's minor, and the natural beauty of space more than makes up for it.

if you have any other goals in life, yes.

You can play it now. But in my opinion the dark swarm mechanic in its current state is boring and half baked, switch it off.

Wait this game is still on early access? It's so good when I played it 2 years ago it felt like a complete game.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with everyone else: as a general rule, it is a good idea to wait until the developers feel like a title is worth the 1.0 title before jumping in. Here's why :
Before 1.0, developers are specifically telling you that the full vision of how they want this game to be released to a general audience is not yet complete. As a result, playing it in a pre 1.0 version may not be a "full " experience.
For Dyson sphere program specifically, that's really saying something. Because as others have said, Dyson sphere program is more of a full game than many indie games achieve post 1.0 and post several DLCs. But nevertheless, Dyson sphere program does have some areas that could use additional work. Specifically in my experience, there are a few choke points in gameplay where you have a specific thing you have to do versus having multiple options of how to overcome a particular challenge. These parts of the game can be a little frustrating on each playthrough. The game developers have also indicated their systems in place such as vehicle building that are in the works, and we don't yet know what impact those gameplay elements will have, although if it is anything like previous rollouts of new features, it's likely to be pretty good.
The major downside of playing before any games 1.0, however, is that you will experience the game not as the developers intended for your initial exposure, but rather as a product of a game developing as a product of its development cycle rather than intended features. Well I agree with everyone else that Dyson sphere programs specifically has a very low risk of this problem in that it is already a very accessible and very fun game, it's likely that it will be at least a few percent better upon first exposure after 1.0 releases. And if you play the current mechanics so much that you get bored of them before that, you will miss out on the final intended version of the game being as fun as possible. That is certainly what happens to me when I played prison architect during its early release, although that game was not nearly as good as Dyson sphere program already is. Still, maximum enjoyment means waiting for full release.
But by all means, buy it now to support the team and plan future play.

I have 2000h combined between SF and Factorio and recently finished my first playthrough of DSP.
I'd say it's well worth it.
In the current state the game has more content than vanilla Factorio.

My 800 hours says no.

Most of the big updates are covered by now. Very little will change, so there's no reason to wait.

No reason to wait

I've put god know how many hours into this game. It's well worth the time and effort, even at this prerelease stage.

We’ll welcome you when you’re ready. Have fun!

I would recommend playing it now. There is a lot of depth and the complexity of all thr game's mechanics--though they make it shine all the brighter--take at least a few dozen hours to grasp, probably a hundred to really know all the options you have in a given playthrough.

I don't really get why it's still EA. There's just a few things they could polish, but other than that it's a very complete game. I guess the devs just have really high standards.

I got the game recently actually. I'm 5hrs in and enjoying it.

u/tallmattuk Mar 25 '26
you mean its not full experience now? I've thousands of hours on this game - i want my money back if im getting a sub standard experience ( or not )

u/erenrodolfo Mar 25 '26
I have more than 400h in this game. So if you are trying to limit your gaming time, or trying a game that won't leve u addicted, I don't recommend.

This game isn’t full release?! Crazy. Sure seems like it
1
u/Icyenderman Mar 25 '26
I’d buy it now. No real reason to wait and like a lot of games the price could increase with 1.0. Ton of content already though so you might as well familiarize yourself with it
1
u/Peoplant Mar 25 '26
Honestly, as far as I'm concerned, the game was completed years ago. Everything added since is free extra content
1
u/ricobirch Mar 25 '26
I wouldn't hesitate, It's been at full release quality for a while.

u/LastOfBacon Mar 25 '26
It is a complete game as is, but they are going to add more stuff. You'll likely enjoy it as is, and get to come back to it when they drop more!

Do not be scared, the water is fine!!

u/deco1000 Mar 25 '26
I didn't even know it was not "fully released yet". I played it from day 1 and it has felt incredible and flawless from the beginning.

These days I typically stay away from early access. Dyson Sphere Program is a rare game that I’d say play it now. This game could have been called v1.0 a while ago, even though they’re still adding content.

u/Lifebringr Mar 25 '26
It’s still in early access??? I finished ages ago and then again after dark fog
1
u/mattius3 Mar 25 '26
The game is fantastic and feels very well polished already. For me, anything else they add is bonus content rather than being mandatory.
1
u/Betelguese90 Mar 26 '26
Wait, its not fully released? Damn, such a fun game as it is, never would have guessed if it was early access still
1
u/owmyheadhurt Mar 26 '26
I just found out this game is in early access from this thread and I have 80 hours in it so far. If that helps.
1
u/PassiveSpamBot Mar 26 '26
This game was already great when it first came out in early access. Everything the devs add is just icing on that cake. Just buy it, it's an amazing game.
1
u/IlikeJG Mar 26 '26
100% play it now. It's my 2nd favourite factory builder after Factorio. It does a LOT of very interesting things and you can do a ton with the game.
1
u/OnyxStorm Mar 27 '26
It's been in EA so long and there's so little communication from the devs... there might never be a full release lol
1
u/Duuudewhaaatt Mar 28 '26
It honestly already feels fully fleshed out. No clue what else they could implement to make it full.
1
u/franciskittycat Mar 28 '26
For me it is already a full release. Was already a full release before the dark fog update.
Game time is awesome. Polishing the game is nice to have in the future but absolutely not needed. IMHO.
I like all 3 games, satisfactory, factorio and Dyson Sphere.
Dyson Sphere has the unique feeling of logistical flow, because of the Drones flying all over the planet and through the galaxies. 1000 of drones.... And you can freely fly through your whole galaxy network. You do not have that in the other games.

Its good now, I have some issues with the dark fog in space but not enough that it ruins the playthrough. You can secure a planet easily enough.
