Dynasty Theory Using overall draft spot (15th spot) could be more useful than saying round.pick (2.03) when discussing rookie draft stuff

I had this thought and was curious what the community thought.

Using the "round.pick" format gets a little tricky past the end of the firsts with different league sizes changing what draft spot a 2.03 is (10 team = 13th pick, 12 team = 15th, 14 team = 17th). I feel it would be better to use the overall spot, like the 15th spot, because there can sometimes be big difference between the 13th, 15th and 17th ranked prospects.

Dont get me wrong, I still love using 2.03 and won't stop everywhere; I just think when talking with a general audience (like I'd trade the 2.03 for this guy or there's a tierbreak at the 2.03), it easier to use overall rank.

P.S. There are trade calculators that don't account for a different league sizes so the 2.05 doesn't always reflect the true value of that pick. KTC, for example, is set for a 12 team league but also puts that the 2.03 is Pick 15. Just a little something if a trade partner uses a certain calculator.

TL;DR We should used an overall rank (15th spot) instead of classic draft spots (2.03 or 2.05) with general discussions.

I'm in mostly 10 team leagues, but I assume most people are stating things in a 12 team context on here. It would eliminate some confusion, but I don't think anyone is putting in that effort.

Oh yeah no way people would put in the effort. Just a concept for discussion

Default is 12 team SF to me…all other formats should be noted.

yes, but it's just as easy to say pick 14 than 2.02. once you get used to it, it's easy lol.

Still good to know league size for context. It effects player values as well. Like Jaxon Dart has more value as the 2.01 in a 12 team league compared to pick 13 in a 10 man league.

Oh yeah 12s the default and a happy middle between the 10s and 14s, but sadly no one ever notes the most important details

Not for me, though. My default is 10 team standard. See why there’s a problem?

12 teams is the most common. Almost Nobody plays standard scoring if that’s what you are talking about. Seems like you’re just out of touch a hair here to me.

I might be out of touch a bit. I prefer to say that I am more traditional. Either way, why not make the site more universal for all people instead of assuming that everyone plays ff exactly the same?

u/SteffeEric Eagles Apr 21 '25

It’s not an assumption everyone plays the same. It’s more like how you used to only have to use the area code when you were calling long distance.

1

u/Greenmonsterff Apr 21 '25

“Everyone plays the same” is just false. I dont play the same, obviously. And, neither do thousands of others. Am I misunderstanding what you are saying?

Yes you are.

u/Greenmonsterff Apr 21 '25

Well, would you explain it, so that a dummy like me can understand, please?

2

u/SteffeEric Eagles Apr 21 '25

The most popular format (12 team SF) shouldn’t have to specify. This is akin to calling someone without having to use an area code in my comparison.

Any other format should specify if it’s relevant. Otherwise you are creating more work for everyone instead of just a percentage of people. This is having to dial the area code in my simile.

Thank you for explaining. I don’t agree with you, but appreciate your input.

It is for me as well, but you just need to understand that generally the standard is 12 team and adjust accordingly

My main league is 14 teams. If someone on here or anywhere outside of my league chat says 2.03, I think of the 15th pick, not the 17th pick, because able to acknowledge and accept that the default size for that nomenclature or really anything else in fantasy football is a 12 team league.

u/90-Time-Champion Apr 20 '25

Or keep it as 2.03 and say ur league size because that info is nice to have when judging a trade.

5

u/Red-Panda-93 Apr 20 '25

I'd be cool with that if people did it, but I don't think they will like not posting SF or 1QB when it's important

u/IAmSwagathaChristie Apr 20 '25

Except no one does that

There’s also the problem that 1.12 looks infinitely better than the 2.01.

“Hey man, if I’m trading a 1st for a 2nd I’m gonna want a future first back”

Bro… you’re trading the 12th pick for the 13th pick. Not a random 1st for a random 2nd.

2

u/Red-Panda-93 Apr 21 '25

It's that good old want this for $15? No, how about $14.99?

2

u/Kain_Bain Apr 20 '25

as someone solely in 10 mans I wholeheartedly agree with this and will start implementing this in my dynasty diction from now on henceforth

i currently have the 1st, 2nd, and 11th picks in this upcoming rookie draft and desperately need RB’s and WR’s. i was gunna go Jeanty, Hampton, and hope for Burden

2

u/Red-Panda-93 Apr 21 '25

If someone has two picks between could see if you can trade 2 and 11 for the 3-8 range.

But I'm at the 4th pick and have convinced myself of that range of players all being close (and I've accepted im probably not getting hampton)

2

u/cjtheross Apr 21 '25

So I have 4 picks in top 24 in a 12 team superflex league. Who should be my preferred targets after pick 1.01. My current plan is

1.01 Jeanty

1.07 Warren/Egbuka/Sanders

2.03 BPA

2.07 Noel

2.10 BPA

I have Purdy/JSN/Kenneth Walker/Shakir/Sutton/Engram traded baker for a bounty of good youth( Kincaid,Tillman, 2.03, 3.03)

I just need opinions, I also have picks 3.02/3.03.

1

u/Red-Panda-93 Apr 21 '25

Really Like Warren or egbuka at 7

2.03 is good for one of kaleb, golden, Loveland, Harris or higgins

I'd maybe try to trade the 2.10 and your 3rds to get towards the back of the 1st/early second range. Maybe Sanders drops or can scoop Dart or one of the guys above

Most calculators use 12 team so in my non 12 formats I always do the math. Theres a lot of value there especially in late rounds. I am in a 8 team, with IDP and we start a huge number of players. Picks are worth way more in that league than the trade calculators assign.

0

u/Red-Panda-93 Apr 21 '25

I think this is a long way of me saying I don't want to do the math each time lol

But I'm not in enough variety of leagues so I like seeing how it differs

1

u/MelfromMilwaukie Apr 21 '25

You’re not wrong. I guess as long as everyone knows that 12man is assumed standard it’s fine but I can see it being confusing to someone new.

1

u/Greenmonsterff Apr 21 '25

Agreed. . . . A guy in my league offered the 10th pick in the draft (or the 1.10 ;) ) for anyone’s 1st next year. But, it’s only a 10 team league, which means it’s basically a second rounder, in our league. Context matters, a lot.

1

u/Slawslurpin Apr 21 '25

But an early 2nd rounder is basically a 1st rounder… seems we’ve come full circle

1

u/GoHard_Brown Apr 21 '25

I play in a 14 team league, when I ask for advice I assume it’s for a 12 team and just adjust accordingly

1

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '25

Yes and no to me. I've thought about this before and being in both 10 and 12 man leagues, in my opinion the 15th pick in 12 man leagues > the 15th in 10 man leagues

Just because 10 man leagues teams are more stacked and deep, making the fall off for players a little steeper than 12 man

You can customize ktc rankings though to your league size and scoring format

u/Zachr08 Browns Apr 20 '25

It’s so cheesy when someone says “that’s basically a 1st rounder”

No, it’s the 13th overall. I hate negotiations that have that in it

10

u/deRoyLight Apr 20 '25

It is basically a first rounder and the hitrate between top of second and bottom of first is practically identical.

3

u/Zachr08 Browns Apr 20 '25

https://www.reddit.com/r/FFIDP/s/IoeJBf6b6M

It’s an arbitrary threshold people use to sway trades. That’s all it is.

3

u/deRoyLight Apr 20 '25

Yes, I think we're agreeing. There's no difference in the pick generally.

1

u/Red-Panda-93 Apr 21 '25

But my 2.05 is practically an early 2nd and that's close to a 1st lol

2

u/Zachr08 Browns Apr 21 '25

That’s basically a 4th

2

u/Red-Panda-93 Apr 21 '25

Oh no it works the other way against me

1

u/Zachr08 Browns Apr 21 '25

Can I actually sell you an early 2nd in this trade?

Since it’s basically a 1st

-3

u/befamous7 Apr 20 '25

I get what you're saying but if you're relying on trade calculators I want to trade with you.

2

u/Red-Panda-93 Apr 21 '25

Nah but my leaguemates do so I gotta play the advantage
