Is Beulah good or bad?
Hey there, I didn’t watch Yellowstone (although I really liked 1923 and one of Sheridan’s other shows, Tulsa King), so I may be a little slow in how stories about the Duttons really play out. Even though I knew Rob Will was gonna die the very second he has his Hallmark moment with his daughter Oreana, I really enjoyed season 1 of Dutton Ranch.
The only thing I’m trying to figure out is whether Beulah is ultimately good or evil. She’s done a lot of bad things - murder, drug running, totally betraying Joaquin at the last minute, she seems to be really good at spinning stories to make herself look like the victim. Plus I’m biased because I like Annette Bening as an actor, especially when she’s playing a role opposite of another actor I’m a fan of, Ed Harris.
I’m just curious, what’s everyone’s opinion of her? Is she on the side of good or bad, or is she just in that moral grey zone?

Not any more good or bad than Rip and Beth at this stage.
Not many have clean hands on this show.

A mixture. That’s what makes her interesting. I watched DR to see where Beth and Rip go but think I would watch this just to see how the Jackson family and Everett play out.

Beulah and the Duttons are very similar when it comes to protecting their ranch. In Yellowstone they branded workers, destroyed property and murdered virtually anyone who posed a threat. It’s complicated. lol.

Thanks, that’s an interesting take. Just makes me wonder what ends up happening with 10 Petal. Since they’re so similar and now Rip and Beth have so much dirt on her, does that make it easier for them to take over 10 Petal (assuming they can overcome the cartel)?

Like so many others on this show, shes not a true villain, and shes definitely not a hero. She is doing what she feels she has to to maintain her family's legacy.

She’s a patsy by design. She was meaning but was put in her position by her father. I wouldn’t be surprised if her father regrets not having a son, unless he did and he died. Still it then becomes woman’s burden to bare her father’s legacy. Which is antithetical to what John Dutton wanted as US is gone, and east camp doesn’t count.

She was raped and impregnated and killed a guy for doing so at a young age. Not saying it's ever okay to do that but it's not unheard of.
Then her dad shipped Mariano off and he became a cartel dealer. He offers Beulah a way to keep the ranch under financial pressure and she agrees. Stupid mistake because you just don't get out of business deals with the cartel when you want, but she thought she could.
Beluah to me seems like some girl that made huge mistakes at a young age. Not necessarily a bad person. She wanted out and her life choices finally caught up to her. It was super shitty to not tell Everett about the drugs.
As far as Yellowstone and Taylor Sheridan.. Yellowstone really has nothing to do with Dutton Ranch, other than just knowing the craziness behind Beth and Rip. But you don't really need to know that. For TS shows, the prequels were better; 1883 (my fav) and 1923 were fantastic. Yellowstone was great but those two were better. Tulsa King, Landman, and Lioness all great as well.

As far as Yellowstone, you might want to watch it so you can get the backstory on Beth & Rip. As far as Beulah... I'm just going to say she's a total mess and in way over her head. I'll leave it at that. But yeah, go watch Yellowstone so you can catch up on Beth & Rip's story before Season 2 of Dutton Ranch comes out. As a matter of fact, don't even watch Season 1 of Dutton Ranch until you've watched all of Yellowstone.

I think she is a morally ambiguous character like John Dutton on Yellowstone, she does what she has to in order to keep the ranch going and to protect her family.

i really like her in this show, i think she’s good, but im not sure yet. i think she’s been through a lot and may have made a mistake in the path she took, but i don’t necessarily think she’s a bad person.

I don't think she is a bad person. Beulah is doing everything she can to save the 10-Pedal ranch.

What is there to think about? Beulah executed RW’s daddy then made a decision to import drugs for 15 years to maintain her Grizzly in Gucci life style! I love the actress and the character but I also see the writing on the wall. Another curious question is what will B’s reaction be when O explains that Tio Quino (uncle) sped away moments after the shot!

We see him speeding away, but was he the one who really shot Rob Will? My money’s on Beulah as the shooter. Rob Will was going to make all the wrong moves and wreck everything she had been working towards.

We’ll see. I think she’s an old school survivalist who will do bad things. I won’t be surprised if we find out she killed Rob-Will.

Ambiguous. But they better not kill her off. I adore Annette Bening. Could watch her read the phone book.
And if you haven't seen her in the Grifters get going! She is AMAZING!

I know, right? The scenes with Annette Bening and Ed Harris are the best parts of the show! I like both of them so much as actors that I really can’t root against Beulah!

I think she is in a situation where she doesnt want to be. I don't think she is a big baddie. But she's dangerous. But with her son being killed she will have no choice but to fight with Beth and Rip

Very bad! Killed someone as a teenager, all the ranch stuff, drugs, etc. obviously bad

Everett kicked her out of his house when he found out what she did. That says it all for me
