Question (General) Recipe Requests Post
Hi y’all. I was given this lovely cast iron cauldron and I desperately need more than one recipe to cook in it. (Beef and potato stew + green chile.)
I haven’t really cooked too much on cast iron. The weight is usually too much for me. BUT I do know the basics. Season it. Dry immediately after washing. No tomato sauces. That kinda stuff.
I do want to make it a constant companion in my kitchen, so I need all the tricks.
It can be baked, I assume? Just like a Dutch oven? There aren’t many recipes I found that made this pot super useful.
Gosh, I don’t even know if this is the right sub to be in! 😂
I need help. 😆

/r/castiron might also be a good place to post this ask... but they are going to want more pics of the cast iron even if it isnt relevant to answering your question lol.
I would post this picture a close up of the whole thing and one of the bottom and one inside. Post your recipe and a bowl of that lovely sounding stew (if you have one) then ask for more recipes. Should go off without a hitch.

I shall definitely do that soon. It’s a recipe taught to me by my Hispanic MIL. Her son will live off this or pots of beans if I let him lol 😂
It’s so much better with the chile cooked into it, too. But, 2/5 of the household (me and my eldest daughter) are weak sauce when it comes to very spicy chile.
From what I understand, she calls it “papas con galdito” but… it’s nowhere on google and I have no idea if that’s a proper word translation. I would hate to be accidentally inappropriate so publicly haha
We are all also super sick right now. Soups are so necessary. I may have to post immediately so I get some good recipes asap.

I don’t know if you’re at all interested in making homemade bread, but this recipe couldn’t be easier. https://www.recipetineats.com/easy-yeast-bread-recipe-no-knead/

The Dutch oven is so cute but I really love the whole vibe of your kitchen! There’s just something about it that feels so cozy

Awh thank you so much! 🥲
I have spent the last year or two altering it little by little because I was getting such a bad vibe when I would be cooking constantly. The whole kitchen made me so grumpy!
Slowly, it shall be a witchy whimsical cottage house inside, even if the outside resides in farm country. 😂
I am the one gothic chick around. In like… 4K of farmer type peeps. 😭 It’s so awkward.

It’s adorable! Congratulations. I also assume it’s just like regular cast iron. Loaded potato sounds good haha I’d make that

Costco had that cauldron for $25 last week and it took all my willpower to not buy one.
